thoughts on 3.02 - Misbegotten

I'm still pleased that Elizabeth left Teyla in charge of the city - a nice nod-of-the-head to Teyla's time in Atlantis and her leadership history (told, rather than shown, sadly, but character nuances that don't hit you in the gut like a Wraith stunner are not a well-known feature of Stargate). And following on from the implications of events in Intruder (final scene) and The Long Goodbye (Caldwell's trust and Lorne's obedience).

But then, I like Teyla and all the potential that the character has.

Which is why I was extremely pleased that they actually used Teyla's Wraithgene to get her to fly the ship. Hopefully they recall it and use it again when it comes to Wraithtech. Doesn't have to take over the storyline (it didn't this time) but just a little nod in her direction.

Atlantis closing ranks in the face of Woolsey? Too funny. Even Caldwell aligned himself with Elizabeth. And Woolsey siding with Liz in the face of the IOC? Again, too funny. Although I'm a little iffy on the way he reached the outcome - a touch too torturous in thinking for me.

I'm rather pleased that Teyla got the first exclamation out of the 'reunion' scene; that's probably the John/Teyla shipper in me. But I still thought it was cute when Elizabeth was teasing Sheppard about playing knight in shining armour. The man does have a tendency to throw himself in the way of bullets, heroism, and defending the helpless (at least when they're his helpless people and not humanised Wraith).

And, yes, it was nice to see John pause next to Teyla each time he passed her on the bridge of the hive ship. Even when she was in the trance thing to fly the ship and wasn't aware of him. And team! I need a cap of that scene with the four of them on the hive ship! Team! To hell with 'ship, gimme TEAM!

Carson. Poor, poor Carson. *squishes* The man is just losing any and all illusions he ever began with. I'd like to see an episode epilogue with Carson, dealing with what he did - both as a doctor and as Michael's prisoner. Given that this is me, I'd probably write Teyla into it. She and Elizabeth might sympathise, but I see Teyla as more likely to pick up on Carson's state since Elizabeth's dealing with the city and the fallout.

Michael. I hope he survived - it would be great to see him again, angry, bitter, isolated... So much potential. And angst. And drama. That is one unhappy Wraith. I'll need some more time to think through the actions of Atlantis regarding the humanised Wraith - and the various viewpoints. John looks at it as cold necessity, Ronon still thinks of them as Wraith, Carson sees the people, and Elizabeth...doesn't seem to quite be facing the issue at all.

Enjoyed the episode more than I thought I would. So, pleased.

TEAM!!
