Dear Rarewomen Author,
Thankyou so much for writing for me in this exchange! I'm so looking forward to your story, because I love these girls so much and there's just not enough fic about them.
So we've matched on Avengers, Sanctuary, Stargate Atlantis, or James Bond (Craig Movies)!
I love plotty gen, character stories, interactions between women, action-adventure epics (not necessary, no, really, NOT NECESSARY), and a little squidge of romance while saving the day/world/guy.
Whoever you're writing about, I love my girls with agency - they should be the ones driving the plot, working out the solution, doing the deeds. I love them competent when dealing with crises and relationships and situations - particularly the stoics who might be internally panicking but getting the job done before they collapse in a heap out of sight and in private.
I've also listed my pairings for each character. DO NOT FEEL YOU MUST WRITE THEM. If you are able, then that's fine. If you're not, that's fine, too!
Pretty much any gen/friendship interactions are awesome. Especially with other women. :)
Avengers - Maria Hill
Maria is my go-to girl for Avengers. It's the way she didn't wring her hands, but leaped into action when she realised Clint Barton was turned. It's her skill in driving a car backwards while shooting deterrents at Clint. It's her cool head when the helicarrier starts going down, and the way she calls Fury on his lies but accepts it as necessary to get the Avengers working together.
What motivates her? We're not shown her relationships or friendships in SHIELD, so perhaps something around them? Who would she kill for? Where did she come from and how do her background and roots show through in what she does now? I'd love to see her dealing with everything post-movie, particularly if you can manage the idea that it's okay not to adore the Avengers. That it's not "wrong" or "bad" or "crazy" to have concerns and questions and reservations about a superhero group.
And I wouldn't mind seeing her interacting with Steve Rogers in particular. Possibly particularly in the aftermath of Phil's death/injury - Phil's hero, and Phil's protege, dealing with each other, talking to each other, befriending each other?
How does she get along with the other female characters in-universe - Pepper, Jane, and Betty are the ones I'm most interested in, although Natasha and Peggy Carter are fine, too. I like the idea of Maria having friendships with other reserved people - not the gushing, chick-flick kind of friendships but relationships which accept, understand, and care without necessarily talking all night, going shopping, or gushing over guys. I know that's difficult to write, so don't feel you need to. But I love women being friends in easy comfortable ways that are true to them for who they are.
Pairings: Maria/Steve Rogers.
Sanctuary (TV) - Kate Freelander
Kate is not a 'nice girl'. She's a loose cannon, she's a wild card, and she plays the game by her rules. She has a chequered past and she keeps her winnings and takes her hits. She's done questionable things and while she's not proud of it, she's not going to forget what she's done.
I like the way she teases Henry and (less often) Will. I like her interactions with Helen - the level of trust, the way Helen gives her rein and she respects Helen's leadership and authority. There wasn't much opportunity for her to interact with any of the Five, but I did enjoy her verbal sparring with Declan.
Pairings: Kate/Will, with a mild lean towards Kate/Declan. I can see Kate being okay with open relationships, threesomes, etc.
Perhaps a look into her background and how it informs her present? She has a little statuette of Ganesh on her bedside table, and I'd like her thoughts on the whole Kali situation, and Will as a priest of Kali. Maybe her teaching/showing/edumacating Will on Kali?
Stargate Atlantis - Teyla Emmagan, Amelia Banks, Miko Kusanagi
Teyla is my unremitting favourite in this show and fandom - reserved and yet very much the leader in tight corners. I love her in action, at rest, at work and play, and with the dry intonation that quirks a mental smile at you. She takes any situation and deals with it - no panic, little muss, little fuss. Perhaps something about how she juggles work and being a mother? I'm not a fan of Teyla/Kanaan "in love", though - I like them as friends who happened to have a child together and are bringing him up as best they can.
I liked the bits we saw of Amelia Banks. A self-contained, self-possessed woman who does her job and probably sees a lot of crap go down. Perhaps something about her reactions to the situations she sees in the control room, guests, diplomacy, and the gate teams going in and out? What about about her time off and how she deals with the special forces guys and Ronon? What about her relationship with Teyla and Torren (Teyla handed her Torren to care for at the end of the events in The Prodigal)?
Miko Kusanagi is obviously intellectually clever, if not exactly on the ball regarding Rodney. Perhaps a little more elaboration on her job and her interactions with the other women? I imagine Teyla would be interested in her culture, customs, background, and history, and I can see Miko starting off being polite and then a natural curiosity taking over. Or, you could write a situation (or several) where Miko saves Atlantis through her knowledge and ability to handle things (and maybe people)!
Pairings: John/Teyla, Amelia/Ronon, Miko/anyone military.
DO NOT WANT: Teyla/Kanaan, Teyla/Ronon.
James Bond (Craig Movies) - Female M, Eve Moneypenny
Female M - how did she rise to the position? What's she bloodied her hands with? How does she feel about Eve Moneypenny as an agent, and is there a difference in the way she sees the male agents vs. the female ones? I just adore Judi Dench's no-nonsense portrayal of a woman in power, who doesn't make concessions and doesn't play nice. Regrets, yes, but she did what she had to, and she'll be damned if she apologises for it.
Eve Moneypenny is now PA to the new M, but I bet she rocks that desk something amazing. I'd love to see her interactions with people - the way they overlook her and how she rectifies that. What if someone tries to get through her to M and she basically takes them out with her bare hands in high heels, and with only the items on her desk? Alternatively, perhaps what made her become an agent and how she moved up the ranks to be working with 007. Was she a 00 agent herself? Did she aspire to be one?
Pairings: Eve/Bond - open relationship.
