I've been waiting to read that fic for years. I keep telling myself that someday I'll write it. :)
I feel like they're going to at least touch on the Civil War in the MCU - it's really too much to pass up as far as conflict and action goes: Steve vs. Tony & Maria. And if Maria gets sacrificed on the altar of Heinous Bitch Of Evil, well, that's nothing. Women are either side dishes or evil bitches. It's there in the Hollywood Handbook. Or something. *makes "it's always been done that way" hands*
I think a Civil War storyline would be kind of awesome (if they did it well, which means having a lot of the 'hero' characters split down the middle, including fan-favourites being on the side of Registration and explaining why they think it's a good idea). I'm really really doubtful about the ability of fandom to make the fine distinctions of "she's acting consistent with what she believes is a problem, even if we disagree" vs. "she's being a bitch to our heroes and she needs to go down burning". I mean, there were people bitching on her for a) reporting Clint to the Council, b) not supporting the Avengers initiative, c) not telling Fury about the second jet (the one with the nuke).
Basically: people these days and the ability to see things from the other side, or even concede that the other side might have some kind of a point? Yeah, nope.
