Okay, so I can't be unhappy when listening to James Marsden sing "That's Amore" from Enchanted. I don't think it's actually possible. Something about that song just wires into my brain and I want to sing and gesture and sway in my office cube.
Not that I was unhappy. In fact, I finally got something working that I've been working on all week and which has been crapping me out. And it's FRIDAY!
My front garden bed has been cleared of about 2m cubed of red lava rocks and looks so nice and all ready for composting and fruit trees and orchard cover greenery. The 10 bags of horse manure should be delivered today. That's going into a compost pile (or several of them), and will also be dumped into the spots where I'm planning to plant fruit trees - probably dig holes, dump the compost, and then plant the trees come spring, when all the bare-rooted trees are being sold.
My weekend consists of nothing on Saturday (NOTHING) and a destash fabric market on Sunday (where I'm selling, not buying). Hopefully sell all the extra fabric I have - I did a big clean out, but I still have more to go.
I have done almost no writing lately. Maria Hill epic is going slowly, and none of the Jupiter Ascending stories are going anywhere. Once again, the profic has gone backburner.
This is partly due to quilting - I am three gifts behind, and have two coming due at the end of this month/start of next. *sigh*
And next month the ficathons start up again.
unconventionalcourtship,
shipswap and the first check-up for the
heroinebigbang which may or may not go.
I also signed up for...something related to Maria Hill on tumblr. It appears to be something like a crossbreed of ye olde webrings and a popularity contest - only the 15 most popular (as defined by reblogs) 'applications' get to be part of it? Or something?
*handwaves that*
Haven't gotten anywhere further on Agents of SHIELD. Thought about it last night while burying threads from quilting (seriously, most boring task ever, pushing even binding into second place), couldn't be assed. Also my sister was watching Australia vs. India in World Cup Cricket (we won) and I didn't particularly want it to become a battle of shows.
Finally: Friday meme
Pick any character from a fandom of mine and I'll answer the following questions:

Pick any character from a fandom of mine and I'll answer the following questions:
1. What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.
2. Is he/she important to the general plot?
3. Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?
4. How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
5. Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
6. Is there anything about the character you would change?
7. If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?
8. Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
9. Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?

1. I like John. He's an archetype that I particularly like - the honourable soldier - and yet he's a little bit left of centre (not politically, character-wise). He's got an open mind - and, more importantly, he's willing to have an open heart. Considering everything he's been through in his life, that's a pretty big thing.
2. Obviously pretty much central to the plot of SGA.
3. I think that the way I relate to John is that he's getting his horizons expanded, and he copes with that pretty well. He's a little fucked up on the relating aspect of things (which is why he gets on so well with Rodney for similarly fucked-up relating, and Teyla and Ronon because both of them meet people where they are and not where T & R would like them to be) but I know how that goes. And he drinks tea with the natives.
4. (this is the same answer I gave for my response for 'Teyla' over on LJ) Stargate Atlantis had a lot of great ideas and concepts and opportunities. It was hampered by major racist, sexist, and western supremacist mentalities that were brought to it by the writers and the fanwriters, the vast majority of whom could only parrot back the hegemonic patterns of Earth.
IMO, the SGA series reached its true potential in the SGA Legacy book series, which was a kind of 'Virtual Season Six' written by three fans of the series and published by MGM.
5. John/Teyla all the way. He's willing to sit down and drink tea with her and her people - an open mind, and an open heart - and Teyla accepts him where he's at emotionally, fucked-up and all. Plus, there's the bonus angles of his Ancient-gene and her Wraith-gene: they're both utterly human but they carry the genetic past within them. And the angle of Earth-meets-Pegasus and shared blood, shared fate, which I feel that the show disdained and the fandom pooh-poohed.
6. Not really. I'd probably have developed his relationships more with anyone except Rodney, and given him more roles to play other than military-action-hero, but SGA was what it was.
7. Friendly, I think. Not best buddies, but good for meta discussions (at least until his eyes glazed over and he made a quick escape).
8. Definitely on the list of preferred characters to write - although that's largely due to the archetype John represents, he's not one of my absolute favourites.
9. I'd be positive about John, but tell them to go watch the show and draw their own conclusions.
