Okay, so I can't be unhappy when listening to James Marsden sing "That's Amore" from Enchanted. I don't think it's actually possible. Something about that song just wires into my brain and I want to sing and gesture and sway in my office cube.
Not that I was unhappy. In fact, I finally got something working that I've been working on all week and which has been crapping me out. And it's FRIDAY!
My front garden bed has been cleared of about 2m cubed of red lava rocks and looks so nice and all ready for composting and fruit trees and orchard cover greenery. The 10 bags of horse manure should be delivered today. That's going into a compost pile (or several of them), and will also be dumped into the spots where I'm planning to plant fruit trees - probably dig holes, dump the compost, and then plant the trees come spring, when all the bare-rooted trees are being sold.
My weekend consists of nothing on Saturday (NOTHING) and a destash fabric market on Sunday (where I'm selling, not buying). Hopefully sell all the extra fabric I have - I did a big clean out, but I still have more to go.
I have done almost no writing lately. Maria Hill epic is going slowly, and none of the Jupiter Ascending stories are going anywhere. Once again, the profic has gone backburner.
This is partly due to quilting - I am three gifts behind, and have two coming due at the end of this month/start of next. *sigh*
And next month the ficathons start up again.
unconventionalcourtship,
shipswap and the first check-up for the
heroinebigbang which may or may not go.
I also signed up for...something related to Maria Hill on tumblr. It appears to be something like a crossbreed of ye olde webrings and a popularity contest - only the 15 most popular (as defined by reblogs) 'applications' get to be part of it? Or something?
*handwaves that*
Haven't gotten anywhere further on Agents of SHIELD. Thought about it last night while burying threads from quilting (seriously, most boring task ever, pushing even binding into second place), couldn't be assed. Also my sister was watching Australia vs. India in World Cup Cricket (we won) and I didn't particularly want it to become a battle of shows.
Finally: Friday meme

1. Stargate SG-1:
Mini!Jack eventually got the SGC to make a Mini!Team to join him.
(Recommended reading: 'Monkey Screaming', 'Mirror Image', and 'Silk And Chains' by sgcbearcub.)
2. Stargate Atlantis:
The Wraith have a society structure all their own, that developed out of a one female-many-males gender imbalance. There are rules and social strata, and personal rivalries, and although they're telepathic, they're not a hive mind.
(Taken from the Stargate Atlantis: Legacy book series, which is so totally worth the read.)
Teyla Emmagan dreams of the Wraith Queen whose bloodline she hails from. Because she's female, and developed her gifts the way no other human-inheritor of the Wraith genes ever has, she can 'read' as a Wraith Queen to the Wraith – or an ordinary human if she prefers. Torran, because he has Wraith genes from both sides of his bloodlines, can also telepathically read as a Wraith, but Kanaan can't.
3. Marvel Cinematic Universe:
Maria Hill got into S.H.I.E.L.D because she took an interest in Peggy. She spotted a female working with the Howling Commandos who was never mentioned by name, and went on a research bent. Since she was researching a one-time Director of S.H.I.E.L.D, her searches raised flags until Peggy gave authorisation for her to be found. Peggy was quite impressed and kept an eye on Maria even after she entered the marines – right up until the point where their paths crossed in Madripoor.
(See: Day 3 – MCU Movies)
4. Pacific Rim:
Angela Hansen was working on Military Rd, Neutral Bay, the day Scissure attacked. She thought she might be pregnant with her second child (she had the pregnancy tests in her bag for when she got home), but when an opportunity came to get away, she forwent her place in favour of a single mum and a woman who was six months pregnant.
Mako Mori and Chuck Hansen have a personal history together, but it's been over for several years. It had nothing to do with Drift compatibility, and everything to do with them both being young and stupidly arrogant and intense. (Mako, too, just not the swaggering arrogance that Chuck still shows.) Chuck's reaction to Raleigh is at least one part jealousy.
Doing as much writing as I do, I have a lot of headcanons floating around my skull! :)

I know most of you have completely given up on Atlantis for other pastures and are never looking back, but for those of you who want a small idea of what's going on,
jo_graham has a small preview of the sixth book in the 'SGA Legacy' series, Inheritors which is a conversation between Teyla and a Wraith Queen.
Let's just say, it's really powerful stuff, and the kind of no-easy-answer writing that Graham, Scott, and Griswold do in the series.

For the
sga_santa 2011, I got assigned
starry_haze! And she got this:
TITLE: Widow's Pique
SUMMARY: Among the Blood, Black Widows are witches who are feared and distrusted for the skill with which they can weave tangled webs to see visions of the future - or entrap the mind. But when Teyla Emmagan of Athos village is called to the court of the Queen of Atlantis Territory, she is less concerned about being misunderstood, and more worried to step awry in the complex politics of the Atlantis court.
Then, too, there is the distracting presence of John Sheppard, a Warlord Prince whose interest in her is something Teyla cannot fathom. Does he distrust her motives? Is he merely protecting his Queen? Or is his interest something else - something that Teyla must learn to accept in order to best serve her Queen, her Territory, and her own heart?
RATING: R
WARNINGS: (highlight to see) rape in a character's history
CHARACTERS: Teyla, John, Elizabeth, Carson, Sumner, Rodney, Bates, assorted original characters
PAIRING: John/Teyla
NOTES: This is the first part of the prequel to 'To Serve A Queen', and has been added to a little bit at a time for the last five years. I didn't think
starry_haze would mind too much if I completed it as her SGA Santa fic - it fit most of her requirements, the concerning one being "close-to-canon AUs". I made several other attempts at ficness - the original plan was to write EPIC LONGFIC "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" for her, but that fizzled thanks to writing angst, and then my attempt to write the 'Dave Sheppard has to deal with John/Teyla' fic "My Brother's Keeper" went bye-byes so this was it.
There was a second part to 'Widow's Pique' planned - one which features Elizabeth's court in its full glory and deals with Michael, Kanaan, and John/Teyla. I started with a basic romance plot and then about 18 months ago, reshuffled the plot to be EPIC. *coughs* I don't think it will ever be written, though.

And then I realised that, given fandom's proclivities, not really that surprising at all. This is a sequel of sots to my fic 'Every Day Is Another Tomorrow' but you don't have to read that one first to get this. It may be a little brain-breaky at first, though, so handle with caution!
When Teyla comes in to breakfast, the doors to the balcony are propped open, and a nauseating stench of rancid meat and burned porridge fills the room.
