Why is writing haaaaard?

I have written the same scene over and over maybe five different ways, and I'm still not happy with it and wanting to get to the next section. And no, I can't write the next section, because, from experience, if I write the next section, I won't go back and write this section.

Do they have a conversation? Is it about him? Her? Do they make quips? Do I need to diverge into his life issues or can I just skip them? The problem that's been bugging me is that I've written all the focus from him on her life - which is the focus of the story - but feel like she's not giving him anything back - a reason to think she's interested in him.

IDEK. Writing. It is difficult.

*grumbles*

I'm going to go around to the parents, sit in the a/c and swim in their pool. Because it's crazy hot here today - 35C or thereabouts, and it's only October; one dreads to think of what late summer will be like - and while my cats seem pretty happy about sprawling bonelessly on the floor, my joints do not work in such a way as to allow me to sprawl comfortably on the floorboards.

But first I'm going to water the backyard, so the garden has time to absorb the water in prep for tomorrow. Really, I should be waking up a little earlier to water the garden first thing before the day gets warm.

I did do some sewing, though. That was good...
