Dear Author, thank you for writing for me, and I look forward to reading your work!
So, in any fandom, I am always and ever about the female characters, their agency, their awesomeness, and how the guys they're in relationships with think they're awesome. I see female characters as heroines, not damsels, and even if they're in a tight spot, they make choices within the limited range that they have and deal with the consequences. Please keep to that, whichever fandom you're writing!
Things I don't like:
1. Babyfic
2. Cheating/infidelity
3. Love Triangles.
4. Situations that could be resolved by the art of communication.
5. Non-con, dub-con, rape.
6. Women who need rescuing (sometimes they may, but they should be capable of doing something towards their own solution).
Things I like:
1. "working together" scenarios, where they're doing what they do, and relating/falling in love while doing it.
2. Emotionally closed-up women (stoics, possibly ambitious), and guys who don't need them to be 'girly', who have the personal strength to give back to them.
3. Friends to lovers, perhaps a little moment, perhaps something bigger or more unexpected.
4. Slice of life stories - little bits showing the progression of their relationship. (Relationship Development)
5. Established relationships where negotiation and compromise is required.
6. Emotional angst in the guys (just a little, believably done).
7. Guys being emotionally open, doing the emotional labour in a relationship to keep it going.
In any fandom, feel free to cameo any other characters, so long as they don't take over the story and the story is still about the relationship.
Marvel Cinematic Universe
Bucky Barnes/Maria Hill
So, he's a former WWII hero turned into a brainwashed assassin who's evaded capture for 70 years and can't trust himself. She's the woman who got Cap, the Black Widow, and the Falcon out of Hydra's clutches without superpowers or high-tech weaponry who nobody notices. Give me the two of them working together, dealing with who they are, the gaps in them, the edges to them. Maria is dangerous in that she knows SHIELD inside and out, she knows a lot of Fury's secrets, she's worked with the original Avengers and with the Mark II team, and she got the kind of quiet competence that most people don't notice until it's gone. So give me Bucky noticing this woman who could put herself forward, but doesn't; who works out of the limelight and in the background, and who wears her distance from people like a jacket that never comes off.
Bucky Barnes/Maria Hill/Steve Rogers
Two guys, best friends, perhaps former lovers, and a woman who's steel enough to handle them both, in bed and out. I'm good with fluff fic, mission fic, smut, or even simple negoatiation for this. But I do want Maria to be a key element of the OT3 for both men, not just slotted in the middle of a slash scene. Also, boundaries and negotiation for all of them - perhaps particularly for Maria since she's the non-superpowered one in bed, but she wouldn't want to be treated like fine crystal either. If you want to make Maria the catalyst for getting Bucky and Steve into bed (I'm not a Steve/Bucky slasher, they a brOTP for me, unless Maria's in the mix) then I have no objection to that. If you want to start with Maria with one of them and them inviting the other in, then that's good too!
Maria Hill/T'Challa
So this pairing is an unlikely one, but I can really see it happening, at least temporarily. T'Challa is too aware of his responsibilities to his nation and his forebears and his lineage, and Maria isn't a suitable candidate for his Queen - the Wakandan Queen is chosen from the Dora Milaje. But I can see them developing a friendship, crossing a line, and perhaps realising that this can't go anywhere and they need to pull back.
Basically, post-CACW, I'd love to see how they get to know each other, how the relationship impacts (or is believed to impact) their allegiances and friendships and relationships. Just try to avoid the 'Avengers give love advice' trope, please!
Sanctuary
Kate Freelander/Will Zimmerman
In Pavor Nocturnus we got a little hint of Will/Kate, but that was about it. I don't know why I fixated on that relationship - maybe because Kate's competence is really my kind of jam in a female character and Will was kind of cute but... This is my OTP.
I'd like to see a non-Pavor Nocturnus relationship; the two of them interacting with each other at the Sanctuary. Wry teasing, playfulness, and getting down to the job as necessary. Can be at any time during or after the series, however I don't like infidelity in relationships, so I'd prefer if neither of them were in a relatonship (whether Abby or Garrus) when they start things with the other.
Kate Freelander/Declan McRae
This pairing just clicked for me, they're both practical people, and I like the idea of them coming together as friends, fuck buddies, or in a relationship - particularly in the impracticalities of trying to manage a pan-Atlantic relationship while running a couple of Sanctuaries. Exasperation with their situations, with each other, with Helen or Will or The Five? So many complications, not half enough time and page for it!
Don't go overboard with Declan's accent, btw. Just write his dialogue and my brain will insert the accent upon reading.
Angel the Series
Faith Lehane/Wesley Wyndam-Pryce
I don't know what it is about this pairing that I love so much, but it hit me hard in the feels when I watched Season Four of Angel. I really really really wanted Faith back in Season 5, working with the Fang Gang at W&H but it was not to be, and neither was the Faith the Vampire Slayer spinoff, alas.
The thing that attracts me to these two is pretty much their brokenness. They're not whole, they're very damaged, and yet I'd love to see them working out how to live with each other and love. They don't have to be perfect, their relationship doesn't have to be perfect, they just have to make it work - a little bit of everything making a doable whole. (Does that make sense? I hope so.)
Faith Lehane/Charles Gunn
These two would be wonderful together - no-nonsense, practical, a little bit wild, a little bit edged. I don't really care how you work them, so long as it's in the context of the Buffy/Angel verse - slaying, kicking ass, dealing with each other, maybe some hot smutty action?
Can be set during S4 or S5, or write a canon-AU variant - whatever works for you with this pairing, I would love to see it!
Agents of SHIELD
Maria Hill/Antoine Triplett
I like the idea of these two as friends, possibly lovers at one point. How did they meet, what made them connect, how does their relationship work? If you can weave in the sense of their lives at SHIELD, their jobs, how they work with and around being Agents of SHIELD as well as getting intimate, that would be fantastic; if not, don't sweat it, just write what you have in you!
This one I'm leaving pretty blank so far as specific scenarios go because I am good with a broad range of options; however you see these two, work it and I'll be delighted to read it!
Crossovers
Note: these are all pairings that I love the idea and I'm not particularly fussed about the execution so long as my DNWs are not crossed! Go with however you see it.
Maria Hill/Bruce Wayne
In my head this is MCU Maria Hill, and JL Animated Bruce Wayne. I know, live-action vs cartoon = weird. But run with this: so, I kind of see Maria as the Batman of the Avengers; just as Batman is the non-meta among the Justice League, so Maria is the non-Avenger among the Avengers team. Their mindsets are very pragmatic, brisk, brusque, and get-the-job-done, but they both have a more lighthearted streak which they let out among friends.
Whether you want Maria to realise/know that Bruce is Batman is up to you.
Teyla Emmagan/Eliot Spencer
I see Teyla as brutally competent, and Eliot as recognising that. Given that they're both pretty good at hand-to-hand, and Teyla doesn't need a gun to be dangerous, think of the possibilities! Perhaps Teyla stumbles into the middle of a job and ends up having to help Eliot out in something?
Maria Hill/James Bond
I know I've watched too many of those "Daniel Craig in the James Bond Movies as Barney Barton, who has a history with Maria Hill" gifsets. But, no, I want to see competent logistics operations manager dealing with super-spy guy. Attraction, sexual tension, innuendo from him and droll sarcasm from her... So many possibilities, if you can write them!
Faith Lehane/Dean Winchester
This is a difficult one for me to write a blurb for, because it's kind of "I love the idea, whether demon hunting, how much their worlds overlap, and possibly with them fucking each other's brains out for the hotness after slayage". There's a part of me that would really like to see Faith reacting to Cas. Or Sam. But, um, just run with them?
Ziva David/Eliot Spencer
Two kinds of dangerous here, loyal to 'their' people, working in teams, both with an eye for what's out of place and a determination to make the situation work for them (or their respective people). Casefic or job-fic, or 'into a bar' scenarios - it's all good!
So, in any fandom, I am always and ever about the female characters, their agency, their awesomeness, and how the guys they're in relationships with think they're awesome. I see female characters as heroines, not damsels, and even if they're in a tight spot, they make choices within the limited range that they have and deal with the consequences.
