One assignment, one pinch-hit, one treat.
With A Cause (the Loyalty Is Earned remix)S.H.I.E.L.D may be gone, but allegiances are not so easily shed. This was a remix of
geckoholic's "
She's A Rebel". I really enjoyed the little glimpses into the headspaces of the women in the first, and figured that I'd expand on the themes of the women in S.H.I.E.L.D and their new goals and loyalties.
And after that, naming the fic was just plain fun. ;)
Think Like A Woman (the Found Family remix)Andromeda Tonks née Black has been staying out of fights all her life – from the day she decided she would marry Teddy Tonks and her family and their blooded expectations be damned, through the day she realised her family would never again see her as one of them – at Uncle Arcturus’ funeral with Aunt Lavinia screeching at her to get out while the family stayed silent, to the day she understood that Harry Potter hadn’t stopped Voldemort, just delayed the fight.
She’s too old to start now.Andromeda Tonks isn't a character that I'd ever written before, and not one that I'd really thought about, so this was a challenge. I feel like I didn't do the original story justice, even if I managed to pick up the themes about Andromeda's hurt and pain at rejection by the family she was born into, and her determination to make a new family with people who care about her and hers.
Half-Sick Of Shadows (the Finding A Way Out remix)Maria grew up being watched by men and women who knew how to handle a weapon; but this man – Steve – is something else. He knows how to handle a weapon, he knows how to handle himself, he knows how to handle other people with weapons.
And nowhere is that more clear than in the expensive, airy, Paris apartment where a man lies dead and glassy-eyed after being jabbed in the throat with a fountain pen.So, back when
theladyscribe first got into Steve/Maria fandom, I challenged her to 'fic tennis' and this was her starting shot. Sadly, I never actually wrote the riposte and the challenge kind of died. I guess this could be considered my riposte? (Two years late.)
I love the original Bourne trilogy (haven't seen the Renner edition, so no opinion yet), particularly the introduction and triumph of Pamela and Nicky’s survival and presence in all three movies. Marie annoyed me, though, as did her fridging. (And I only just noticed the name similarity. Huh.) Maria would be nowhere near as passive or disbelieving - in any universe or incarnation. And were I to write a sequel to this (as the ideas streak through my head like the chase sequences in the Bourne movies), she would most certainly not be fridged...
At any rate, when
theladyscribe's author had a small meteorological crisis (I believe?), I thought "I'm pretty sure I could remix
something of hers..." and went looking.
Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the FemmeRemix - and particularly to
theladyscribe for managing the whole thing.
