The [community profile] halfamoon challenge is running again this year.

For those of you new to DW/LJ, half-a-moon is a fourteen day celebration of female characters - any fandom, any female. I admit to not knowing about the fine print around female-presenting or trans women, but I assume they're encouraged and allowed. (I don't believe Rule 63 is permitted, though.)

I always start with the best of intentions and then get stuck a few days in.

This year, I was hoping to post The Other Side Of Infinity (Maria! Jane! Valkyrie! Hela! Wanda! Nebula! Gamora!) but I'm only at 25K and they haven't even hit the first mission. (I'm dreading it. But also kind of looking forward to it. But mostly dreading it.)

It's just that I'm pretty bad at keeping stories short.

Anyway, if you have fics to post, icons to make, recs for fic | art | vids | other, or anything that's centred around female characters, then get them ready. I'm hoping the increased flow of people to DW, not to mention the slight increase in the number of female options in fandoms, might get us some solid engagement this year.

I've signed up for Remix Madness (the treats section of [community profile] remixrevival and already found one person that: a) I want to remix, b) I'm pretty sure wouldn't mind me remixing them.

So that's hopeful.

If you'd like to remix anything of mine, then the Remix Madness prompts are here. And if I see your name on the list of remix prompts, I'll definitely give your fic a look. :)

So, I haven't sent out my Christmas cards yet: want one?

I came down with a 48 hour flu over the weekend. There was shaking and hot-and-cold sweats, a nose that ran the Boston Marathon in record time, and I ended up sleeping in most of the Monday morning at which I was supposed to be starting three weeks of work at a previous client. But frankly it was the Best Sleep-In Ever and I woke feeling human enough to run a few errands and do stuff that I'd planned to do on the weekend but didn't have the energy for.

Today I'm at work, feeling mildly crappy but not utterly awful, and mildly crappy is at least manageable. I've left my phone behind, which means I can't check my email or my social media at all, because this company limits EVERYTHING. On the plus side, it means I'm not fretting too much about how crappy the world is becoming. (Guardian UK: The Shattering Of The Upward Mobility Promise. I think this applies to Australia and almost certainly America, too, right now.)

The vision in my right eye is starting to get a little blurry - that's the side where there was an infection in the upper back molar which got removed, and where there's still a little 'puff' of tooth filling spilling out of the root canal for the next molar along, and where the area is still swollen and giving me occasional twinges and muscle aches up the jaw and temple. I think I might have to make an optometrist's appointment sometime soon - ideally before next Monday afternoon when I have an appointment with the dentist who insists that that puff of tooth filling shouldn't be causing any issues at all and thinks it's a myalgia (a.k.a. all in my head). I need an eye test anyway, along with a new pair of glasses. I keep losing a pair and needing to replace it with my 'backup pair' which then requires that I acquire another backup pair in case of further loss...

I'm signing up for [community profile] fandom_stocking again, because I always do and because a little happiness is always nice come New Year - and may be especially necessary come January!

Also, if you have a wish list of some/any kind that you'd like me to look at, please link me. I've spotted a few around, but haven't delved deep, largely due to ughness through November. Given this contract runs until at least Christmas, I think I'm in a position to be able to help some people out.

The idea here is to organize a gift exchange designed for Marvel and its many branched runs, authors, related and unrelated fandoms. The idea is to include the X-Men side and the Avengers side and every other side that non-Marvel fans don't realize is Marvel. The idea is to include any timeline you want, any world you want, any character you want, so long as it's Marvel.

NOW OPEN FOR NOMINATIONS

[community profile] genex is finishing nominations in about 10 hours (just after midnight 'Pago Pago' time, which I presume is the last island in the Pacific to flip the date over). Here is the existing tag set and I've nominated a bunch more female friendships besides!

(Damn, forgot Pacific Rim? Anyone willing to go in and nominate all the Mako friendships, although particularly with the female characters?)

--

[community profile] auexchange has opened sign-ups! This is a fairly specific AU exchange, matching on fandoms and characters and AU scenarios - both fusion and canon divergence.

--

[community profile] crossovering is also presently taking nominations although they're not showing the tagset.

In order to check that you haven't doubled-up on fandoms, you have to go to here and see if someone's said they're nominating your preferred fandom. It's a bit tricksy IMO - easier just to show what fandoms have already been nominated so you can add the ones that aren't there without problem.

I think the difference between AU Exchange and Crossovering is that the first is pretty specific scenarios, and the second has a lot of leeway around general universes.

--

Northern Hemisummer is always crazy for sign-ups...

--

I have the [livejournal.com profile] mcu_aufest story in, as well as [community profile] not_primetime, and I'm contemplating treats for both. Not convinced I'm going to have time, though...

[community profile] fandomgiftbox is running again in July-August. It works a little like Fandom Stocking, but is in the middle of the year, instead of the end when all the Yuletide/Santa exchanges take place.

You post a comment with the lists of your requests for fandoms/characters/prompts, and the type of gifts you'd like to receive, and the mods post your lists in a separate post which is temporarily screened. People may then gift you fic and art based on what you've posted.

You don't have to gift other people - it's not an exchange. However, it's hoped you'll go looking for someone who has interests that match yours and give them a little something.

Sign Ups at [community profile] fandomgiftbox run until the 7th July.

The [community profile] wipbigbang is still looking for artists. There's a whole range of stories that are looking for artists, whether graphics designers or fanmixers or illustrators.

(Yes, I'm in there; I don't know if I'm still waiting for an artist, I haven't checked. I'm a little iffy about whether or not I'll be finished in time, but I'm damn well going to try.)

And then [community profile] seasonofkink is starting up again from 1st June.

A way to finish your stories? (Heaven knows I have plenty of those.)

[community profile] treatyoselfcomm is an exchange designed to reduce your backlog. Creators signup with works that they want to work on, and then are matched to someone who is interested in helping them. You create for six weeks, and then the archive is revealed with your work(s). Simple!

FAQ

--

I'm interested, certainly, because having people to kick me along is always useful, but...I don't know. I won't have much time for the next month since I'm trying to finish the quilt I'm making for the show, and the timeline is pretty short for any of the longfics I have sitting around.

I'm debating whether or not to sign up for Marvel Bang this year, for much the same reason. Last year I had a lot more time b/c of project downtime. I don't expect the same this year. (I might end up with it if this 6 week contract isn't continued. I guess we'll see.)

So, it's the weirdest thing actually having to go 40 entries back through my Readlist in the space of a day. WEIRD. I haven't had to do that in, oh, about 8 years (and that was LJ).

Mind you, a lot of those entries are the 2017revival introductions and the comm that lets you know about new comms popping up. And friends who are crossposting from twitter and instagram.

Still, that's a helluva lot more action than I've seen in a while!

(And it's kind of good. Not quite the meta-y stuff that I have long been longing for around here, but nice to see some activity. Here's hoping it remains active!)

story of a quilt )

Tonight, I have to dig up some lemongrass, only it's already dark outside. Luckily, the lemongrass is right in the line of my headlights as my car is parked in the carport. SCORE! I'm digging up a clump of lemongrass to swap with a woman 30 mins away whose parents have an olive tree whose olives are ripe. Basically, I'm going to try curing my own olives. Probably by brining them since that looks like it involves less water. (But will probably end with them more salty. Oh well.)

I also have to drop around to a friend's house and check on her cat. They've gone to visit the US and while a friend is coming to stay in a day or two, I'm occasionally looking after the cat.

family stuff )

Today I logged into an application for the type of work I do...and discovered that my company has not yet severed the connection between my login for that app and their partner grouping. So I still have access to all their trouble tickets for the customers on that app... Oops!

Finally, Not Primetime sign-ups are GO!

(And thank you to whoever picked up my smut swap pinch hit. I hope the other lonely PH recip has also found a home.)

This has been a ramble straight out of my brain. Sorry about that...

They're doing nominations for the MCU AUfest tagset right now:

1. They're asking people to only submit pairings for better matching; threesomes/moresomes may be requested in letters, but they can't be demanded/enforced this round.
2. They're asking people to submit the AUs

Their links are up at LJ, they have no plans to cross-post to DW due to the extra work. (Is there no way to crosspost communities?) However, I've blocked the elements that Russian ElJay are using to keep you from interacting with the site. It's inconvenient, but so far it's gotten around the user agreement.

In the meantime, I've submitted:

Relationships
Maria/Steve
Maria & Pepper
Maria/Bucky
Maria & Sam

AUs
AU - Sedoretu
AU - Black Jewels
AU - Jaegers/Pacific Rim
AU - Pern
AU - Daemons
AU - Psy-Changeling
Canon AU - Maria in Civil War
Canon AU - Winter Soldier has a different identity
Canon AU - Maria Hill, Director of SHIELD
Canon AU - Female Character Superhero Team (not genderswap)

Not sure there are too many MCU writers still around here who can/will write Maria (Steve, Tony, Bucky, and Clint seem to be the popular ones, with Natasha, Peggy, and the Agents of SHIELD ladies being the popular ones in femme-focused writers) but I always encourage them all the same.

Also, consider nominating T'Challa and the Black Panther cast? (Or more Maria-centric pairings.)

Porn Battle Amnesty is hosting another Prompt Stack - all the smutty prompts you can give them, and then a week of writing!

Pairings I will attempt to write if someone else submits them:
MCU: Maria/Steve, Maria/Bucky, Bucky/Maria/Steve, Maria/T'Challa, Jane/Thor, Clint/Natasha, Sam/Bucky
PacRim: Mako/Raleigh, Kaori/Duc
SGA: John/Teyla
SG1: Sam/Jack
Merlin: Gwen/Arthur, maaaaaybe Merlin/Morgana
NCIS: Tony/Ziva
Firefly: Mal/Inara, Wash/Zoe
Rogue One: Jyn/Cassian,
The Force Awakens: Finn/Rey

...and probably others that I haven't listed.

I know I don't have many het readers or writers looking at this, but those of you who do, please consider submitting prompts? I always run through the same ones, and finding people who think differently to me is always a bonus.

[community profile] fic_promptly is always taking prompts and I think there's a daily/weekly component?

For people who try to keep their writing up, this might be a comm to check out?

And there's a friendship fest going on - list groups of characters to have fic written about their friendship!

I was hoping for 10 participants, so far we only have 6. Then again, that was canvassed back at the start of November and, as Nanny Ogg once said, we've all passed a lot of water since then. If you're so inclined, go sign up, please!

Before I go zone-y on painkillers and forget this entirely:

[community profile] femmeremix is up and running again this year, for remixing stories about female (or female-identifying) characters.

And sign-ups are open for the next 10 days!

This year, for those who may not have the time/energy to commit to an exchange but wouldn't mind someone remixing one of their fics (or remixing other people's fics), there's also a Treats Opt-In.

LiveJournal | DreamWidth

Welcome to the Maria Hill Comment Fic Fest - a chance to write a bunch of ficlets about the woman who single-handedly rescued Captain America, the Black Widow, and the Falcon from death at the hands of HYDRA with nothing more than her brains, a stun-wand, a laser-cutter, and balls of pure titanium.

Instructions
1. Leave a comment containing a prompt, scenario, or quotation to inspire someone else. If you want to leave characters or pairings in addition to Maria, then add them in!

eg.
Maria & T'Challa, understanding and responsibility
Maria, gen, We are made to persist. That's how we find out who we are. (Tobias Wolff)
Maria/Steve, sex in uniform up against a wall where there's the fear of discovery

2. Pick a prompt. Write a drabble (100 words exactly), ficlet, fic, novella, or GRAND EPIC TALE about Maria from that prompt.

3. Post it/link it to the comment-fest, putting the title/character/pairing/rating in the subject line.

eg.
MCU: "Killing In The Name Of" by Tielan - Maria & Natasha, R (violence)
Ultimates: "If It Wasn't For Those Damned Kids" by SelDear - Maria, G
Comics: "UnPleasant Hill" - Maria/Steve by SueLinley, PG-13

4. Do it all over again!

Any incarnation of Maria is okay, any pairing/threesome/moresome with her in it, any additional characters - so long as the story is about her!

There are no deadlines, no requirements to leave prompts or to fill, and no pressure to perform! (Although I hope many people will - more Maria love is always needed throughout fandom b/c she is freaking AWESOME.)

There will be two posts where prompts can be left - LiveJournal and DreamWidth - and anonymous commenting is allowed and unscreened on the Fic Fest post so anyone can post a prompt or link to a fill! If there are enough fics, I might start an AO3 collection if there are enough fics for it on AO3.

Promotion

Cut and paste the following code into your LJ/DW post to promote the Fic-fest.

Come and play!

NB: I vaguely based this off the Porn Battle, as well as the various other prompt-fests out there.
