tielan: (don't make me shoot you)

Well, I won't say that Bridgerton is dead to me, but I am going to have to watch this with some very large grains of salt. Quite possibly entire salt licks.

I may be approaching this from Romancelandia not from Kardashiland )

Really, it's about pacing, and I feel that Bridgerton's sense of pacing is off - and my confidence for Season Three is certainly not boosted by the way Season Two played out.

--

Again, maybe it's a Kardashiland vs Romancelandia thing? But I'd have played the beats out differently:

Bridgerton: Virtual Seasons Three and Four )

Now if only I could find some authors willing and capable of writing this with me! I'd definitely do a Virtual Season Three and Virtual Season Four...

Fixits is what happens when I get a fave who doesn't get love in-canon.

Unusually, my fave and her OTP are for once actually the focus of the media property (however badly done), and so there are many other people who are producing/getting involved! It's kind of exciting! Although after toiling for 10 years to produce and encourage ~850 fics for Maria/Steve, it's been, oh, two weeks, and there's well over 1000 fics for Kate/Anthony. The speed at which the Anthony/Kate tag moves is unbelievable.

*sigh*

Give me five people who can write like the wind, plot like a villain, and obsess like a fangirl, and I can change the face of a pairing in a fingersnap.

I never had five people in Maria/Steve fandom. I barely had one at any point in time.

Also, the Bridgerton fandom skews...young, so far as I can see. And the people with the worst takes (Edwina deserved better than the show gave her, Penelope is an awful person) are always the ones who have a media publication for their platform.

So far there's the multichapter-only-two-written-so-far:
formed, not declared (4185 words) by tielan
Chapters: 2/?
Fandom: Bridgerton (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Anthony Bridgerton/Kate Sheffield | Kate Sharma, Edwina Sheffield | Edwina Sharma & Kate Sheffield | Kate Sharma & Mary Sheffield | Mary Sharma
Characters: Kate Sheffield | Kate Sharma, Edwina Sheffield | Edwina Sharma, Mary Sheffield | Mary Sharma
Additional Tags: Romance, Enemies to Friends to Lovers, Alternate Universe, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Sharmas as family
Summary:

In the froth and flutter of the season, the ton - and royalty - so easily forget this simple truth: a diamond is formed, not declared.

And I have about 2000 words to a fic about the wedding-which-we-didn't-get-to-see. With Hindi wedding traditions, and Kate dealing with stuff that we didn't get to see her deal with in the show. Hopefully that'll be out mid-week.

So, as a fan of the book TVWLM, I am...not as delighted with S2.

start with the bad )

It was enjoyable, yes, but not as robust as it could have been.

the 'Shondaland' regency: a vague resemblance )

--

I do have good things to say about this season, it's just...there's a lot that fell apart, too )

tl;dr is: it's an acceptable AU to the book, but I liked the book rather more.

Last night, B1 explained that (having been spoilered for Bridgerton S2 by B2), she thinks that the tropes they switched the story around to highlight are simplistic and common rather than the unusual and different ones that Book 2 used.

Which, yes, to some degree they are. They're for visual mass media consumption, and to develop the characters in the series, while in the book the only characters who really 'matter' are the main couple.

2.06: which I have personally labelled 'Things Fall Apart, But People Actually Talk To Each Other' )

Episode 7 tomorrow.

I spent two hours trying to get the documentation for my tax returns for 2019-2020 done (yes, I am that late). And then I got confused about whether they were asking for the tax return due in 2020 or 2021.

I think I've sent the right stuff. If not, well, there's going to be some rather extensive files in my accountant's inbox come Monday morning. They're either going to love me or hate me.

Watched Bridgerton 2.04 and 2.05

I'm generally enjoying but going to be a little disappointed that my favourite two scenes from the book will be Sir Not Appearing In This Series, to use a Pythonism: book 2 spoilers )

As [personal profile] rmc28 has pointed out this is The Season Where Nobody Talks To Anyone Else About Important Things.

spoilers )

...my cats are apparently waiting outside my study, facing the west (the orientation of the study door), and my sister is singing 'The Last Post', while making ridiculous references to turning faces to Mecca.

We're going to finish watching the season during my mornings this week so we aren't in suspense for so long.

Bridgerton: desi influence, Bollywood, and romance: someone mentioned a desi take on Bridgerton S2 regarding Bollywood tropes and influence and I went looking for it because some things didn't quite sit right with me in S2.

I'm skimmed it because it contains fairly major spoilers through to the end of S2, but also it has some really useful characterisation notes and choices within the context of Kate and Edwina Sharma as desi women.

--

the most comforting thing in that article: rough spoilers for Season 2 )

--

It's interesting looking around at the commentary on S2 and going forward.

Bridgerton: future season speculation, some book spoilers, a couple general S2 spoilers )

representation: includes forays into MCU and Endgame )

--

My sisters are starting to get into Bridgerton. This has mixed consequences. Both have read the books and generally enjoy them. B1 (at least) has read the prequel series, too.

B2 has read ahead for spoilers, because she can't take the suspense. This means she is prone to dropping comments about things that happen because B2 doesn't really have a filter like that. She did drop the 'Bridgerton as Bollywood' article to me, independent of my finding it elsewhere, though. So that's nice.

B1 has listened to the spoilers from B2 and I suspect at that point the series had already landed on her shitlist. B1's a bit of a purist when it comes to adaptations. As a result, she vociferously punctuates her viewing with "but that's not how it happened in the books!"

She's really angry at Violet flashbacks 2.03, Marina book spoilers )

--

Anyway, after all that, the next viewing party is Saturday night, and I somehow have to find a space to watch it without the sistren looking over my shoulder and making comments. I just want to watch and enjoy, I don't want to deal with the peanut crowd!

TVWLM is pretty much my favourite out of the 8 Bridgerton books, largely because of Kate and her personality (although Book 4 is also a favourite, if you know which couple is which then you know what I mean). So I've been looking forward to this season.

I'm enjoying it so far. longer, spoilers for book 2 and season 2, but also book 5: Eloise's story )

They just cast the heroine of Book #2 - the one who ends up with the Viscount Bridgerton. In the books, she's Kate Sheffield, who's pretty enough but not next to her sister who's considered The Imcomparable.

In the TV series? She's going to be KATE SHARMA and she'll be played by Simone Ashley!

from what I've seen? it's mostly joy. With a fly or two in the ointment because: white supremacy )

Guess I should get me an icon.
