More Infinity War thoughts:
This was not a story we needed now.
THIS WAS NOT A STORY WE NEEDED NOW.
Maybe it seemed a fine idea back when American democracy still had the semblance of law and freedom, when HRC was on the road to winning the American election, when the idea was conceived in the heads of rich, famous, white men with nothing to lose. But when our society is rapidly heading down the darkest timeline, the thing most of us certainly did not need was a movie...about the darkest timeline.
There are stories of kids going to see the movie and coming out crying, not knowing that it's going to be okay. Frankly, I don't know if it's going to be okay. and I know that Carol is coming.
The whole matter of "will A4 introduce ideas that make my stomach churn" is kind of a given, tbh. *sigh*

I have to wonder what some of have perceived as the darkest timeline was already dark for a lot of kids long before DT and his ilk reared their ugly heads. For many of them, it's always been some flavor of crap and seeing it play out on screen may read differently because even though heroes fell, there were still some people left standing and they were going to have to negotiate a vastly different world. What they would do next is the big question.
(and I spoiled some poor dude sitting behind me during the post credits scene when I went "Oh, shit! Captain Fucking Marvel!)
(aaaand, did you notice that one of Thanos' children - the big craggy one, was wearing that same symbol around his waist? Or maybe I imagined it)

I saw a few twitter comments where people said they had to bring this up as a point of comfort for their traumatised co-viewers who don't know what's coming next.

Frankly, I want Maria saving the world...in lieu of that, I'd take more Maria, simply because NOBODY SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO REMEMBER THAT SHE EXISTS. Like, not the fans, not the writers, not ANYONE. Except me and a few people whenever I mention her.
Sometimes, swear to God, I think I made this character up in my head. It's like, she didn't even need to be ashed because nobody actually knows who she is in the first place, and even those who know who she is CANNOT ACTUALLY RECALL HER.

MARIA: What the f --
CAROL: //zaps in -- I assume this is the giant emergency Fury said he was keeping me in reserve for and not that he needs a battery jump?
MARIA: Who are you?
CAROL: Who're you?
PEPPER: MARIA HELP NATASHA SAYS TONY IS STRANDED ON ANOTHER PLANET AND STEVE IS STARING BLANKLY AT A LITTLE PILE OF DIRT and someone named Shuri says hi?*
*this is the version of BP where Maria had Ross's part

(I did see that someone on FFA said that they'd suggested Sharon which, while nice for the women generally, does not hit my id at all...)

I did not. I'll keep an eye out when I go to see it with friends on Thursday night.
