And this is why I probably shouldn't go reading other people's reactions, because it sparks off all my own thoughts and feelings

warnings for time travel brain breakage )

I really do miss when I could just enjoy these movies. I think I lost that later than most people – after Age of Ultron when the news for Civil War came out, tbh. Maybe that’s why I enjoyed Dr. Strange and GotG2: because they didn’t make my head hurt. (While Civil War made my heart hurt with the sheer lack of Maria in the storyline that introduced her in the comics, even as an antagonist over the Accords or something.)

I don't know if it will be the panacea for all ills, per se; you're probably wanting your favourite rather than mine, and the fixits will be coming thick and fast, but seriously, imma point you at the other side of infinity for something that yes, made my head hurt while writing, but which I'm pretty sure for which I closed all the really huge plotholes...

Oh, and spoiler for fic )

In short: it's a fitting end to the movie series. All the things you'd expect and well done.

I mean, I liked my version better. But that's also not a surprise. :)

And now I'm going to go pet my cats and listen to some music very loud so I hopefully don't have the Avengers theme in my head when I go to bed tonight...

The Other Side Of Infinity is one epilogue shy of complete. I'll post that on Friday or the weekend. eta: I decided I couldn't be arsed waiting to put it up. Just post it, all done.

And I feel like right now I need a bit of 'flop' space for my brain to recover from writing and rewriting and stressing and ARGH. It won't get much time, for that, though. I bought my ticket for Endgame, next Wednesday 5:20pm. Expect copious ranting around 9pm AEST.

Not going to look at the release. Not going to check out spoilers. On the other hand if the movie is actually about how Maria gets to save the world with all the other Snaptured people...

*crickets chirp*

Yeah, I didn't think so.

Frankly, I just want to make it out of this fandom alive.

And I'm impressed...

...and kind of horrified, too )

I have more things to think about and comment about, but I don't have a lot of brain right now. If you want to discuss spoilers in the comments, then I don't mind at all. I'd love to have conversations with people about different angles.

Also: when's Captain Marvel actually due to come out?

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a Nick POV section to write for sharp Evening stars and bright Morning flame (the sedoretu series).

My Marvel diorama, a.k.a. "A Version of Civil War That Addresses The Question 'Does Great Power Really Come With Great Responsibility Or Just A Moral Free Pass?'"

happens to involve Maria and Pepper )

Anyway, I set all this up because I went to look at the review of the Maria Hill doll and found no comments and the guy said "Maria won't be the centre of anyone's Avengers toy display" and I said, "Hold my drink".

Let's say there's a disease making the rounds. You can get a vaccination for it, but there are side effects - dizziness, nausea, exhaustion for a while before it kicks in and you're generally okay after, sometimes there's mild scarring at the injection site.

The disease is...well, it's been known to be deadly, or very close. At the least, it's debilitating, the symptoms last for years, and it's contagious.

Let's assume that the vaccine is free: would you take it and risk the side effects?

Clearing out the quilting room has resulted in the discovery of a great many things that I'd kind of forgotten I even had...

I think I might need to have a goal of at least 1 quilt top a month, and at least 6 finished quilts by the end of the year - not counting my show quilts (at least 2).

And no more fabric purchases...

Dammit. I may have to go to the big hardware store AGAIN after going every day for the last four. But I fear I really do need the watering system in before tomorrow's heatwave. My back garden is not doing so well (and neither is the front one, but at least there's a watering system in).

Went to the gym for the first time in a year. I'm going to try to get back to going regularly this month, before I cancel the membership when I'm made redundant... I just realised it's been about 5 years since I regularly went to the gym (as in religiously, week in, week out) and all that time I've been paying a chunk of money for a gym membership.

I'd like to boost my muscle, make my metabolism work better, and redevelop my fitness. I may have to accept that I will never be as fit as I was at 24, or even at 34, but I can damn well not be down for the count at 44...

ACCURATE CAPSLOCK REVIEW IS ACCURATE - linked to by [personal profile] kore, whose rage at the movie is a wonderful and sanitizing thing for me.

My thoughts on what I was hoping for out of an MCU Civil War, and which Captain America: Civil War failed to provide. It was also in refutation of a Captain Hill shipper who thought Sharon was replaceable in the movie. (She wasn't, but the romance was handled with unspeakable awkwardness.)

At some point, I will write the letter to Marvel Movies in which I indicate why a Black Widow movie will make things worse for female characters in the MCU, and you will all bitch me out, then unfriend me, and then blacken my name throughout the fandom.

But today is not that day.

Today I'm going to finish this ridiculous fic, and make more Maria Hill icons, because for reasons inexplicable to a fan such as myself, there are simply not enough of them around.

And then I'm going to see the chiropractor in the afternoon and get a quote for the fence, because in the midst of fannish frivolity, there must also be management of the mundane.

It was a really, really good movie.

That doesn't make it any less of an insult to a Maria Hill fan: that this was an opportunity for other people to see and admire and appreciate Maria as the Everywoman trying to hold the world together, and it got put aside for more White Hero Guys.

longer: spoilers, themes, thoughts )

Okay, so that wasn't so much about the plot. But then the plot doesn't really bother me all that much except in terms of history that needs to be included if I'm going to be canon compliant. It's the relationship dynamics, the interconnections between people and how they shift that are interesting.

I feel like running an MCU: Civil War remix.

The requirement: write a fic that remixes Civil War.

I mean, I know most people wouldn't bother including Maria in it (who?), but damn, I'd like to see what other people come up with that includes more than just the big characters from the movies.

(Also: the first person to tell me "but Natasha has a great part, so don't get angry that Maria's not in it" will get "but Australia has great health care, so don't get angry that America's health care sucks!")

Because this story went so many places before I worked out where it was going, and still ended up with a good 10,000 'spare' words.

Here's about 2,500 of them, disjointed oddments of scenes or conversations that got discarded because they didn't lead where I wanted them to...

this is my brain on speed )

I'll have the full thing up in a few days. Monday at the latest.

I'm going to watch The Avengers movie again tonight. By myself. Possibly with a notebook.

So give me one or two characters from the Avengers movie (and broader universe) and I'll write an interaction between them. If you want to help it along, you can suggest prompts, topics, situations, or scenarios. Whatever works for you (and which will hopefully work for me).

I can't guarantee they'll be good. Or in-character. Or, you know, that I'll write them at all. But I will at least toss a few ideas around and, who knows? I might get bit by the bug over your idea.

Do be warned, though; I may not follow fannish expectations. (Unless your expectations are that female characters can be awesome and slash is not a priority.)

Okay, so I've finally seen Joss Whedon's Avengers. It was good. Enjoyable. I think I'd like to go see it again to get a better feeling for everything that's going on all at once. And maybe I'd squee more about it the second time? Or, possibly, I'd just enjoy it for the candy.

Avengers: spoilers )

Next up, watching MIB3, as per [livejournal.com profile] saramund's instructions because she can't talk the time travel over with her hubs, 'cos he won't get into those kinds of discussions with her. Ah, the joys of geekery!
