Mostly from The Guardian Australia. I don't mind the SMH, but the Australian is utter poison - and is the only paper that is left in the break room anymore.

I really have to go upstairs to the desk and find out if the company just stopped ordering an alternative to Murdoch's Murderous Media or if someone isn't bringing it down.

And then the question becomes: should I buy it myself and leave it in the break room?

From Australia:

Is the 'revolt' against Gladys Berejiklian (Premier of NSW - like a state governor) real or just Faux News?
No doubt these members genuinely hold their views against abortion. But it is worth noting none has sought to reverse the practice of abortion in NSW via a private members bill. The reason? It would be political suicide.
I'm almost tempted to lay down the challenge to my FB feed to tell them they should be supporting these guys to commit political suicide, but given the way the world is working right now, I'm worried it might backfire.

Society:

It's not even keeping up with the Joneses, it's socially keeping up with friends.
I actually think this is something that her friends also should have learned, though. I mean, I got it pointed out to me at age 20, and decades later, I make sure that I don't suggest places that my companions can't afford.

Conservatives hate red tape...unless it's to regulate the behaviour of their enemies.
We've all seen this: it's a-okay unless it's the liberals doing it.

'Blood On Their Hands': The man who warned about the white supremacist movement rising in the US lost his job because law enforcement and intelligence agencies didn't want to focus on white people as the rising terrorist problem.

The missing missing reasons for child estrangement that parents won't acknowledge.
Basically, the way that estranged parents talk about the estrangement is full of hazy references to situations that are never fully explained that are more about the way the parent feels and less about the part the parent played in the estrangement...

Medium: The Ugly Truth About Guns
In a way, guns are fun the way tranquilizers are fun. They make the anxiety go away.

Yeah, I knew that the FBI and DHS had both tried to warn about white extremism, and both gotten their asses kicked for it. (sigh) Such denial from old white men.

Oh, hey, issendai! I have read SO MUCH of that. My parents aren't even "estranged" exactly but it's tangential to it, and also it's weirdly fascinating to look into narcissistic behavior like that.

Ooh those are good. We gave some $$$ to the Grauniad a while ago, should do it again. (Rachel Maddow says "support your local paper," but the only one left in Seattle is a conservative piece of crap. The alt weeklies are dead.)

I have reason to link people to Issendai all the darn time. (For some reason, the phrase "Sure, your mom may have literally shoved you out of her vaj, but what has she done for you lately?" works well when exhorting a friend to just dump their toxic parents already. You'd think they wouldn't appreciate flippancy, but it works.)
