So, there's a lot of jobs going in Canberra right now.

I was thinking, I could probably take a contract job in Canberra if I could do some of it remote (probably not), and if I absolutely needed to take a year in Canberra, I could probably get someone to rent my room out and maybe look after the garden?

But the thing about Canberra jobs is that they're requiring you to have 'Baseline Security Clearance' before you apply for the job.

How do you get 'Baseline Security Clearance'? The company/organisation that's hiring you applies for you to get it. You can't apply for it as an individual, you have to go through an organisation that's willing to hire you. But the job applications for Canberra all require "Australian citizen with Baseline Security Clearance" and at this point it looks like they're not even answering your emails if you don't have it.

Anyone see the circularity of this?

So there's work in my career area in Canberra right now, but I can't apply for any of it because I don't have clearance - but I can't get clearance until I have someone willing to apply for it for me and...

*sigh*

I guess Canberra was pretty far down the list anyway.

ARGH. If you really want a job, I'd apply and assume that I'm eligible to for the clearance. I mean, seriously, that's ridiculous.

Wow. That's even worse than US companies requiring "two years experience in our field" for even the beginning bottom-rung positions.
