Dear Yulegoat,
Apparently I've been doing this thing for over a dozen years! Whoda thunk it?
My AO3 is
tielan.
Anyway, I'm glad that we've been matched, because clearly you have excellent taste in small fandoms and characters! Basically, write what we've matched on and we'll be good; these are just ideas that might give you a nudge if you're a bit stuck on ideas.
Likes:
- female friendships and working relationships
- respectful romantic relationships
- characters showing intimacy/friendship in ways appropriate to them
- slices of life
Do Not Want:
- nominated/major character death
- nominated characters as antagonists
- pairings I didn't ask for
I am okay with not all the characters I requested being in the story.
The length of the sections in this letter is not an indication of how much I want them; I just have more defined ideas about some canons than others. If they don't speak to you, and you can't do them, then please don't feel you have to. Just go with the characters that we've matched on and it will work out.
Requests in no particular order...
Dragon Star Trilogy - Melanie Rawn
Pol, Sionell, Jihan, Jahnavi
I love the worldbuilding of the Princedoms, the sense of the story unfinished, and the possibilities in not only these four but all the other characters that populate the world: where they're going, what they're doing, the feuds and friendships that develop over the years into the future. How does having an openly faradhi/diarmadhi High Prince and his heir change the balance of power among the Princedoms?
I admit I always wanted Pol and Sionell to end up together and was mildly annoyed when they didn't - both in their marriages, and at the end of Skybowl. I would love to see their relationship developed and elaborated upon after the second series.
I'd like to see Jihan dealing with her diarmadhi blood and her discovery where it comes from. Does she melt down, the way Pol did? How does she comes to terms with it? What kind of adventures does she have growing up? Is her life golden all the way, or does something give her a sobering shock?
Does Jahnev envy the power that's all around him - an ungifted middle child in the midst of two faradhi siblings, the friends he grows up with? I love the cool-headed competent ones almost more than the fiery, heroic ones, and Jahnev seems to fit this with his seriousness with his mother and his restraint of Meig. I'd love to see more of this character.
I know that Rawn hinted at Meig/Jihan, but I'd kind of like that to be the stalking horse: Jahnev's calm levelheadedness tempering Jihan's passion, perhaps in much the same way that the books indicate he does for Meig as they grow up, and how it switches from exasperated friend to yearning lover, and what changes things for Jihan as she grows up.
If you don't want to do the relationships, then any of them working through the politics of the world, especially Sionell teaching Jihan (about sex, about politics, about the subtleties of princedoms), or maybe Pol speaking with Jahnev as gravely as he would any one of his athri (which Jahnev certainly is as Lord of Remagev).
Psy-Changeling - Nalini Singh
Stefan. Judd, Brenna, Tazia.
(Optional inclusions: Zaira, Sahara, Sienna, Sascha.)
Stefan and Tazia are kind of on the outer edge of the Arrows. I'd like to know more about their integration with the Arrows, particularly in light of the discovery that humans in the PsyNet keep it from degrading. I'd love to see them befriending Brenna and Judd at some point - I can imagine Brenna befriending Tazia.
The optional inclusions are just women I particularly like in the series, and whom I'd love to see dealing with each other in some situation that's more than just social. I don't know what crisis you'd have to engineer to have them all in the same place with Brenna and Tazia, but wouldn't it be interesting?
S.W.A.T. (2003)
Chris Sanches, Jim Street, Deke Kay, Hondo
I like this movie mostly because of the established and found families in it.
Obviously, there's Jim Street finding his place among the new 'oddball' SWAT officers - Deke and Chris - but there's also Chris and Deke's supportive families, outside of the 'loner' narrative, and Hondo and Velasquez' friendship that clearly extends to golfing together on a day off.
Perhaps write me something about blowing off steam at work and out of work, work colleagues and wobbly boundaries. Or maybe a story about the team doing stuff together (whether mandatory team-building shit, or spending time off-duty backing each other up in life and living) and how they turn it around into mischief/trouble/legend?
Bring in the rest of the SWAT team/cop shop as you please, but I'm not into Street/Gamble - that's not my reading of the movie.
Calvin & Hobbes
Calvin, Susie, Hobbes, Mr. Bun
I'm so glad that Bill Watterson kept the copyright on Calvin and Hobbes. Calvin's too-accurate cynicism amidst the delight of his childhood whimsy would have been horribly blunted in syndication for the masses.
This is one where I really would like all four characters in the story. Calvin and Susie grown up in the modern world, with their childhood toys in that state of 'are they/aren't they' that exists all through the comics. I would particularly like to have more about Susie's relationship with Mr. Bun.
Tokyo Crazy Paradise
Tsukasa, Ryuji
I like this canon because...well, mostly the Tsukasa/Ryuji relationship hit my kinks. Opposite backgrounds, she's not supposed to fall in love with him but she does - and doesn't moon around after him! She decides that if she can't have him, she'll still protect him, and she'll do what's right for him. And that is awesome, IMO. I love stories where (for some reason or another) a character can't be with the one they love, but they're not all sulky and pouty about it: they go out and they act out of love for that person, without expecting the one they love to necessarily reciprocate. Total kink for me!
I'd love to see a story taking them through the next steps in their relationship, something set in the future as they navigate who they are to each other and the world.
Devil's Cub
Dominic, Mary
Look, I am pretty much up for any story in this canon which features Dominic/Mary together, working themselves out, working out their lives and love in the society they live in. AUs are good from the mundane to the fusion, futurefic is awesome, snapshots and slices of their life and thoughts would be excellent. The only thing I really want is for them to be happy together (it doesn't have to be saccharine) and in the context of their families.

Finally, thanks for writing this for me; I appreciate the time and effort you're putting in. In the end, just write your thing about the character(s) we matched on in the fandom we both want to see more fic for, and we'll get along like a house on fire.
Although hopefully with less screaming, property destruction, and cold water being thrown at us.
