Daylight savings has begun, which means we lose an hour. Most years I don't mind this. Most years, I'm not in recovery! Abdominal twinges, nowhere near the sites of the incisions, general tiredness because I'm pushing a bit too hard. Gyno visit today (Tuesday).

I'll check with the gyno on the status of all the abdominal feelings, and what I should still be looking out for.

But on the topic of overdoing it...

It doesn't help that the garden is slightly crazy, this is the time for Getting Things Done in the garden. I had garden help on Saturday and just...kept going after he left. Just finishing offf a few little things here and there! Honest!

I was tired but didn't sleep so well on Saturday night after losing the DS hour. And I planted out the beds on Sunday. That was all. It wasn't much (no, really, I know you don't believe me on the subject of 'not much', but it wasn't).

Sunday evening was church, then dinner with the family, and then I was planning to go to church supper at someone's house, except I finished dinner and was hit by absolute exhaustion. So I went home, but then kind of regretted it because although I was exhausted, I couldn't seem to sleep properly. It took me until midnight to get to sleep so I might as well have gone to the supper anyway...

And it sounded like it was really good, too. Church suppers at someone's house are a good opportunity to talk with people you don't often get to speak with, because Sunday nights are a little bit crazy with people running around all over the place picking up and dropping off teenaged kids, and getting ready for Monday.

This Monday, though, we had the Labour Day public holiday. And the friend with the boat asked who wanted to go and there were a few of us (plus his teen daughter and a friend of hers) so out we went into the sun and the sky and the water and the wilds!

A really great day, but hot out under the sun! And I think I got a little burned. I'm feeling dehydrated and kind of achey around the face. (Probably needed to do another round of sunscreen after I went for that last dip.) And straight from that...I went to watch a movie with the friends-from-that-group-who-didn't-go-boating: The Wild Robot.

It was really good. A DreamWorks tear-jerker, typical "thing out of place finds its place in an unfamiliar setting, changes the place, and makes a family and home" story.

It's kind of interesting to observe that in The Wild Robot, the animals were the more human-nature characters, with appeals to such things like "kindness" (which animals don't know) while the 'humanoid' characters (the robots, created by humans) were very inhuman. There were creative choices made, which I'd like to think about and discuss at some point, but it became really evident, particularly once you start seeing "the bit with the humans in", which is also a point at which the animals start having to work together.

The robots were as you'd expect, the worst of human robotics, except for the heroine (obviously, voiced by Lupita Nyong'O), and the AI which was the most memorable representative of the Big Bad (I'll just call her the Big Bad).

The Big Bad had very human characteristics ("evil" characteristics, of course), and interestingly, seemed to have been programmed with them, while the Wild Robot had to go wild in order to access her human characteristics ("good" human characteristics). Which is a creative choice commentary all its own.

But the decision to give the Big Bad AI a GLaDOS voice was a shiver-down-the-spine moment. It kind of resembles that 'Evangelical Christian Baby Doll' voice at some level. Cutesy polite, but also utterly and completely wrong. That and the way it moved - it's a floating ball with tentacles, basically squidlike. Which adds another interesting layer: a "human representative" that has been depicted with "animal physicality", vs. the "human representative" that is depicted with "feminine humanoid physicality" - as compared to the destruction robots sent after the Wild Robot, which are "masculing humanoid physicality".

Anyway, much stuff to think about in the design, creative, and story choices about the movie. Don't know if I'll get to discuss it with anyone I saw it with, we scattered pretty soon after, because everyone was going home or out for dinner, although we'll be meeting again on Thursday for trivia again.

Okay. Today is the gyno check-up, but before that I'm going to go out, get breakfast and pick up a parcel. Then online craft group sewing. Then it's a quiet afternoon and dinner with hockey friends. Maybe. If anyone but me turns up. (In which case, I will order my dinner, sit and eat it and reflect on life, and go home. But someone will turn up, I'm pretty sure.)

Hope everything with the doctor works out okay. You should bring up the tired with her. Maybe she will have a solution. I have been trying to get someone to give me a solution to the tired for a long time.
