call for Teyla-fans

I'm working on a Teyla-centric project for the new year.

If you've got any liking or fondness for Teyla, can write stories or make graphics or draw sketches of her, are willing to meta about her or write essays on the character, would you please leave a comment to this post letting me know what you can do? Comments will be screened.

I'd really love it if you'd post this out to the people on your f-list who like Teyla, too. I'm particularly looking for people that I don't usually have interaction with because we're not in the same circles or groups or f-lists.

They've just got to like Teyla and be able to produce some form of fanwork about her.

Okay, thank you to everyone who's responded and to everyone who's pimped this about!

The plan is to run a "12 Days of Christmas" for Teyla, featuring Teyla-centric fanwork posted every day from the 1st Jan to the 12th Jan. The call-out was primarily to see how many people would be interested in participating, since I wanted at least one "scheduled" work posted per day, although the "12 Teylas of Christmas" Festival would also be open for other fan works to be posted.

I'm also considering a longer-term schedule for Teyla-centric fanworks over the year, and will be using this project as a prototype to gauge interest.

Fanworks can be fic, art, banners, icons, vid, meta...anything you can conceive that's centered on Teyla. Any fics should be at least 500 words, and if you're posting icons, a batch of 5 would be the minimum.

Currently, I'm going to schedule two people per day. When we run out of slots, I'll reshuffle so the early birds get their worm!

Hi! Long time reader here. Please forgive my ignorance but what exactly is a meta? I've tried to puzzle it out but I can't pin it down. I'm new to the whole live journal experience. Thanks, Everlovin'

Hi! Welcome to LJ.

'meta' is the Latin for "about". It's basically an essay on a topic of your choice - in this case, something to do with Teyla.

Possibilities would be "Teyla and the balance between her relationship with Atlantis and her relationship with her people" or "Teyla and Western perceptions of a non-Earth character" or "Teyla and her relationship with her team".

Ideally, it would be based strongly on canon, and structured a little like an essay. But that's up to the essayist.

Random comment: "meta" is actually Greek for "beyond, after". In philosophy, metaphysics = "beyond physics" which is why it's about, uh, ok, this made sense when I took that class, but rather than about the laws of physics, it's about whether the laws of physics exist, how they can exist, can be know them, etc, etc. Meta is used a prefix to mean about, though.

Well I also have.... a LONG fanfic that is the first of three, (working on book two), then I have a short little ficlet centered on Teyla (S5 spoilers though), then a few others that are already done, but do those count? The ones that are already done I mean

Your response has been picked up - it should be visible in this post when you're logged in to LiveJournal. You want to do a fic about how Teyla announced her pregnancy.

It might be worth keeping in mind that the show will have Teyla announce her pregnancy in the next few weeks, so by the start of January, the need for such a fic will be considerably less.

Well, it'll have to happen at some stage. I don't know exactly when, but I imagine that they'd have to tell it sometime before the hiatus since it would have been extremely obvious after the shooting hiatus (which usually approximately corresponds wih the series hiatus).

Perhaps how Teyla has been used as a character within the show through Seasons 1-4, and how effectively she's been used. Ways they could use her in the future and how it could change the way the Atlantis show runs itself?
