Amusing setup if you know the premise. And, um, I don't imagine it's difficult to know the premise given that they advertise this every, oh, 15 minutes on SciFi for several hours before it actually screens.
This episode shall henceforth be known as The Episode Of Cute. Because, really, everyone in it is kinda adorable.
I wrote this pretty much while watching it through twice.
Rodney proposing. Wow. He's really not ready for this, is he? I'm sure that John's reaction means he's gay in someone's slashy mind, but, honestly? John's acting like a guy whose friend is about to get hitched and he didn't expect things to be heading that way so soon.
Hee. Teyla's the one who accesses the system. And John's being over-protective. Like, seriously.
Zelenka's a pigeon fancier! *giggles*
John and Teyla: his and hers computers. And here we go on the "issue that has to be addressed: Teyla after the birth." See my prediction post about Teyla's child for more details.
A catastrophist. How appropriate. Some of the Rodney/Katie interactions seem a little awkward - but I don't gather that they're either of them really social people. Rodney's fluent enough when he's talking about anything technical - anything he can state as right or wrong without a doubt, but he's definitely not social interactive of the year. And I suspect that Katie's fairly shy at heart. Definitely not a "comfortable fluid couple" right now.
"What were we talking about?" "You were going to cheer me up."
"Surprisingly, it's nothing Rodney did!" Oh, Radek. Your faith in Rodney reassures me immensely.
*laughs at John* "It's the ultimate answer to the question of life, the universe and everything."
Teyla's look says, "Oh, Ancestors. Earth people and their bizzarro references."
I was wondering if they'd have a scene like this: John and Teyla and the baby. Eeeee! The shipper in me says there's a moment when both of them forget that the child is allegedly Kanan's and it's just them and the intimacy of the moment... That's okay. Any other shipper worth their ship would say the same thing about their own pairing. :)
Hm. Okay. John's doing his Batman thing and we're only halfway into the episode. So...there should be another terrible event of tension and doom coming up. And not just him slipping, which will, according to the laws of drama, happen anytime.
Yep. He slipped. How predictable. Now, if this was proper drama, the thing would start to bend beneath his weight... Made the balcony! Whee!
Ronon and Jennifer's conversations are surprisingly intimate, given we haven't really seen that much stuff between them. But they're kinda cute. And the whole attempt to blast open the doors... "Are you ready?" "No."
Lorne has the cutest little headbob as he tells John that this is all the C4 he's got.
Ooh, Teyla, what the hell do you think you're doing? Good girl. *Phew* For a moment, I thought she was going to try to scale the city, pregnant and all... I mean, cool but crazy.
Hee. Sheppard, Lorne, Chuck, and unnamed girl who I sure hope isn't a redshirt. Chuck/girl technician ship! *facepalms* I can't believe I said that.
I want to call the technician-girl Edie. Because her mom was a flower child and thought the name was cool. Chuck/Edie ship!
Ooh! Radek gets to do cool saving-the-day stuff. I think he's a bit jealous of Rodney getting to save the day all the time. Unless he's supposed to get caught and stuck or something. And we need a translation of Radek's mutterings. Because I want to know what he talks to himself about while he's crawling through the ducts. You can just see David Nykl making it up as he goes along, having a great old time.
Keller as brainiac girl. And cute! And nearly kissage, but not quite! Muahahahaaa! The scene where they sorta slide together was a little surprising - I didn't think they'd be so physically comfortable so soon. But, clearly... *smirks*
RADEK SAVES THE DAY! I shall have to keep an eye out for genfic where Radek gloats. Subtly, of course, because Radek doesn't do the whole self-important thing.
Teyla and John give Ronon The Look. Soooo, are you guys...?
Ooh. Bittersweet ending. Poor Rodney, he moved things too early and it looks like that door's closed - not just physically but metaphorically, too.

Overall, I enjoyed.
I like that Rodney had nothing to do with the solution (although he hyperventilated enough to supply air to the whole city if they'd hooked up him), and that we see just how innately neurotic and problematic he is as a person.
I enjoyed the Keller/Ronon development, and the John/Teyla interactions about her pregnancy and the head's up on where it's going and where it can't go. I guess it all depends on how necessary the writers see Teyla - as compared to how necessary the fandom sees Teyla.
I need more icons from S4...
