to do this weekend

1. finish off the cards and send them (we got stuck on a lack of envelopes, but I have discovered how to do them with sheets of paper instead).
2. put together scrap quilt for cousin 1x removed (so I can quilt it next week)
3. write at least 1 treat
4. come up with Captain Hill assignment idea (shorti would you be interested in brainstorming for this?)
5. plant out the seedlings I bought at market this morning
6. meet friends for breakfast on Sunday
7. go to carol service at old church on Sunday night

Christmas Day is a quiet one with the parentals, the sistren, and possibly a few aunts and uncles. Mum has some simple Vietnamese Rice Paper Rolls planned for lunch, and a few bits and pieces for dessert.

Boxing Day (the 26th) will be the big bash with relatives and ALL THE FOOD EVER HOMG.

Dad comes in on the 30th (hopefully not at the same time as my friend's birthday lunch). Oh bugger. I need to work out presents for him, stepmother, stepbrother, and stepmother's sis...

Made some things for gifts to go to older kids/women. I was already donating to a couple of shelters/organisations that assist DV survivors, but sometimes I imagine it's nice for people to get something that can be personally theirs.

I've always believed in the importance of doing and not just saying; and I feel I've been a bit lazy these last five to ten years. And, naturally, just as I start looking for options, I lose my job. On one hand, that means I have more time to do things. On the other, it means part of the scramble will be to develop resources to fill in the holes. If I can't find the money, then things will start having to slip through the gaps.

We'll worry about that when it comes.

writing in the gap

I've been doing the getyourwordsout challenge for...quite a number of years now.

I'll be doing it again next year. 500K in a year - well, I'm currently at 400K, and that's before I've counted my Yuletide fic or treats, written my Captain Hill exchange, or stuffed any fandom stockings. There's still time.

So. 500K in 2017. Of which I intend that at least 100K will be an original manuscript. I say this every year, but have put it off. I think I'm old enough to give no fucks, and considering one of the themes is about bullying, I think it's time for me to write it.

Not sure whether my unfinished fics in MCU will ever be finished; there were a few SGA fics that got left mid-tale, and every now and then I receive a request from someone begging me to finish one of the SG1 WIPs. Sometimes you start something in good faith and then aren't able to complete it to your satisfaction. That's the way the cookie crumbles, sad as it might be.

So, we'll see what happens in 2017. If Maria Hill is confirmed in anything, then who knows, I might change my mind. And the Wonder Woman movie might prove promising. We'll see.
