3. How do you choose quilt patterns and fabrics?
Choosing quilt patterns and fabrics is one part "ooh shiny", one part "I have to make something because someone needs a quilt". Right now, I'm in a "someone needs a quilt" phase, with my cousins high on the list.
I might start with the patterns and look for fabrics in my stash that work, or I might look at fabrics in my stash and decide I should use some of those and look for a pattern that works with them. I don't really have a standard method for choosing which goes with what, it just kind of happens.
That said, the 'cousin' quilts previously mentioned are starting with a colour palette which I am then filling in with fabrics from my stash. I pick a set of colours that matches the cousin in my mind, and then make a quilt. Siblings will have the same pattern in different colours/fabrics (although I am thinking of putting some of the excess blocks on the back of the quilt), so they have that connection.
