A reminiscent post. And, because I'm going to be writing for most of tomorrow and I need positives to keep me writing.

Five Things I Initially Liked About SGA
1. It wasn't about Earth.
2. They had a cool Stargate.
3. There was a female leader to the expedition.
4. Their first contact in the new galaxy was a non-white female leader of her people.
5. The city rising.

Five Things I Liked About John Sheppard
1. He had no ties to Earth, so he put everything he was into Atlantis.
2. He was open to new cultures and Teyla and her people when Sumner and everyone else dismissed and distrusted them.
3. He didn't have any compunction about sharing Earth culture with Teyla, or befriending her.
4. He was emotionally constipated and chronically incapable of showing his feelings, especially where there was the risk of rejection.
5. He had a 'never give up, never say die' attitude.

Five Things I Liked About Teyla Emmagan
1. She made no apologies for being a woman, coloured, or a leader of her people.
2. Her attitude to her body - she was comfortable in the physicality of her being without needing to behave in a flirty or sexualised manner.
3. What she didn't know, she learned; what she couldn't do, she left to those who could; what she could do, she did well.
4. She was emotionally strong, physically fit, and mentally capable, with no apology for being so.
5. She adapted to Atlantis to the point where military men took their cues from her, and became a respected member of the expedition.

Five Things I Liked About Ronon Dex
1. He survived his wife and his people and didn't dwell too much on what he'd lost.
2. He looked rough on the outside but was a bit of a softy and a gentleman at the core.
3. His grin and his willingness to use his weapons.
4. He almost always leaped without looking, living with passion and fire.
5. His courage and protectiveness of his friends and team-mates.

Five Things I Liked About Carson Beckett and Aiden Ford
1. Carson: The accent.
2. Carson: His gentlemanly nature, and the way he was such an easy person to get along with.
3. Carson: His uncertainty regarding his gene abilities, but his determination to press on and do what needed to be done.
4. Ford: He seemed so staid and calm, but beneath the seriousness, laughter lurked. That first leap backwards into the Stargate in Rising? Oh, Ford.
5. Ford: He could kick ass when he chose, even if he wasn't certain about what he was doing (either in the Pegasus galaxy or in the situation).

Five Things I Liked About Elizabeth Weir, Rodney McKay, and Jennifer Keller
1. Elizabeth: She was a female leader of Atlantis, who'd been a tough, competent negotiator on Earth.
2. Elizabeth: She defended her people in Atlantis against the censure of the IOA and Earth leaders.
3. Rodney: He learned to be considerate of others in Atlantis, and that if he let his guard down, people could actually like him.
4. Rodney: He had intelligence and good ideas for getting out of all situations.
5. Keller: She discovered that just because she was the nerdy girl in high school and uni, she didn't have to let her earlier experiences define who she was - she could grow from them.

3. He didn't have any compunction about sharing Earth culture with Teyla, or befriending her.

Yeah, this was cool. I always love the references to popcorn.

4. He was emotionally constipated and chronically incapable of showing his feelings, especially where there was the risk of rejection.

I don't suppose this would be an admirable trait under any other circumstance, but it is cool for Sheppard.

3. What she didn't know, she learned; what she couldn't do, she left to those who could; what she could do, she did well.

Not to mention she looked really awesome doing these things. I mean, she just has this otherworldly grace even when she's fighting...

2. He looked rough on the outside but was a bit of a softy and a gentleman at the core.

Oh yes. :)

3. His grin and his willingness to use his weapons.

I just thought thought it was funny you put these two features together. :D

As far as the others. I loved Carson's accent and his overall warmth ("Love"). I really liked Weir the best as leader. Part of the reason I liked her was that I didn't always like her, if that makes sense.

I like all your thoughts on the characters. They are so true.
