The sound of someone in the office stifling a sneeze so it squeaks in their nose sounds exactly like the noise my cat makes before she hacks up a hairball. I automatically tense at that sound, because it usually happens at 4am in the morning, under my bed.

atlantisbigbang progress:

Plus extension for a month! I'm not sure if this is a 'yay' or a 'boo' since now it's due...at about the same time as the other two Big Bangs I'm s'posed to be writing. And I dropped Astonishing Persistence because I didn't have enough time (and enough scene definition) to write it. Now I might. Dilemma!

Now that I'm writing Black Jewels SGA for the Atl BB, and Black Jewels Merlin (Morgana's story) for the Ladies BB...what do I write for the Scifi BB? Canonfic? Another AU? I kinda want to try to finish off a fic about a civil war in which Teyla and John find themselves caught up and involved. Actually, that could easily hit 40K, so... Another dilemma.

I find it hilarious that lightning hit a huge statue of Jesus outside a church in Ohio and burned it to a crisp. Actually, it's the debate about 'what message is God trying to send us' that I find truly hilarious. Maybe God is saying that, IDK, you shouldn't build a giant lightning rod of a statue out of flammable material?

Have finished Stealing Fire and it was very good! I liked Lydias and the other characters in 'Stealing Fire', the story was excellent, the drama well-paced, and the ending had a nicely lyrical feel.

I have to admit, though, Black Ships is still my favourite, with Hand Of Isis in close second place. It's probably the female protag thing, and because I identify more with Gull's aloof differentiation than Charmian's sensuous involvement (I see a lot of Iras in myself, actually) - although their common thirst for knowledge and their pragmatism definitely make both (actually, all four: Gull, Charmian, Iras, Cleopatra) women my kind of female characters.

I do hope we get to meet Elza someday, though.

Hah, and you would not believe the hunt we had in Galaxy Bookshop, Clarence St to find it! I checked the shelves. Not there. I asked the assistant, who said they had two copies in. He checked the shelves. He thought it might be in the new incoming books. (And he thought jo_graham was an excellent writer!) What followed was the sift through two trolleys of unshelved and unsorted books and then a careful scrutiny of the 'new releases' shelves...and we found it!

I was late for dinner with my parents and one of my mother's oldest friends. Oops.

Um. And that was last Thursday. I bought three books that night, and read through Kris Longknife: Audacious, Stealing Fire on the weekend. I am now halfway through Kris Longknife: Intrepid... (gwemegil, I think you'd like Kris, if you like Honor Harrington.)

It's just ridiculous, the degrees to which people seem to be taking it.

Not everything must be a Sign From God. Maybe it is, but...really, this one's a bit ambiguous. Giant Jesuses are bad? (Isn't there a giant 60-foot marble Jesus somewhere in South America?) Don't put Jesus outside the church? (How's that for metaphysical thinking?)
