It's kind of nice to feel like writing again. Although I feel like I should apologise to my MCU Ladies recip; the story is not what I'd like it to have been, but I had zero writing mojo through February.
I'm...not curious, exactly, but kind of interested to see the Sharon Carter Wars over on Tumblr. I mean, yeah, she's getting in the way of my OTP, and I'd rather see Maria than Sharon, but if I was given the choice of Maria, or Sharon, or Maria and Sharon, I'd take the 'and'. Because, well, more female characters, the possibility of more than a basic Bechdel Test Pass (Cap2 squeaked through with a convo about rifled ammo between Maria and Nat, but I WANT MORE), and, well, more Maria. Because: more Maria.
Sure, I'm not sold on her as a pairing for Steve (it's a bit like Steve/Natasha in that I can kind of see it if I squint really hard, but it doesn't work for me) but maybe Cap3 will change that. Or maybe I'll just come out feeling sick. I'm pretty sure I'll come out feeling grumpy that Maria wasn't in it (I'm going with 'the rumour of Maria being in Civil War is just someone tossing chum in the water' because there's been nothing other than that one 'spoiler'), and not in the role she should have been.
Incidentally, would it have been awesome to have Maria and Pepper both in Civil War, but on Tony and Steve's sides respectively, or would it have been AWESOME?
Maria fighting for rules and restrictions, because yes, she can trust the superheroes she knows, but there are helluva lot of ones out there that she doesn't and they're not all going to be good or mostly harmless; and Pepper fighting for the freedom not to be a superhero, because Extremis regenerates (that's what it does, it can't help it) and under the fullest extent of Registration, she has to be registered and work as a superhero with monitoring by an organisation, which, "No, I really don't think so."
And Steve and Tony feel betrayed and angry and bitter at them and at each other, because this is personal on several levels.
(And if I was writing it, then Maria and Pepper would be the ones to come to the table and make the agreements in the end, meeting midway, because they don't have dicks so it's not a dick measuring contest, and both of them make sure that there's wiggle-room to move because they're women and they're politic creatures, not heroes, and they know about the art of compromise.
And that would be my story of how both the Iron Man 3 and Cap 3 movies got hijacked by women, both in physical action and in political maneuvring.)
So many opportunities lost.
But back to Sharon. I'm not sold on her. One of the 'good guys'? Yes. A new player? Yes. An interesting character? Sure. Is it squicky that she's Peggy's grand-niece? Maybe a little. Is it annoying that we've only seen her with Steve twice, and yet she's likely to be his love-interest (which also makes her sound like a lot less than I imagine Sharon is going to be in the movie)? Yes.
Would I prefer not to see her with Steve? Well, yes. But I recognise that as a personal preference. I actually wouldn't mind her with Bucky. Or Sam. I particularly like Sam/Sharon lately, and have more of a Bucky/Natasha bent. (Secondary angst, too, if Natasha's sided with Registration. It's all about the complications.)
Anyway, that's my MCU ramble for the morning.
And today's promo is Marvel Is Marvel sign-ups are open: an exchange for any and all Marvel, including comics, X-men movies, and any and all TV shows, not just the current crop.
