I realised what the other side of infinity was missing: Nick's POV. So the section that I've rewritten about 100 times since August is being rewritten again - this time from Nick's POV and it's going a lot better. And the key relationship in the story is Maria & Nick anyway, so I think we need his perspective.

I know people on my flist have mentioned the Comfortable Courtesan, but I didn't realise it was actually written by someone in fandom, let alone available on DW. I'm still in the middle of the 2015 entries and very much enjoying it.

I kind of miss metafandom. I'm not sure where a meta-discussion of 'tumblr coming to DW' is right now, or if there are links to it, or even if I'd be welcome in it. The people who are involved/starting such conversations are not the kind of people who I think would deign to talk to such as me. Still, sometimes it would be nice to keep up with things as they happen, instead of a month later.

This, however, has always been the case for me, ever since I realised - about 15 years ago - that I was never ever ever going to be one of the cool kids in fandom and know what was going on.

It feels like it's been a lazy four months. That good old Protestant work ethic that demands productivity of some kind or another, alas!

Frankly, I'm sure I could have gotten more done if I were someone else, but with the heat and the everything, it's just an effort. (That said, I probably get a lot more done than a lot of my friends who have various conditions that limit their physicality.) Having no money and no prospect of earning it in the future doesn't help, either, and I feel unproductive compared to my professional writer friends who just seem to churn out bestsellers by the dozen (okay, one, maybe two a year, that's still freaking amazing if you ask me).

I have garden posts and nailstamping posts and I'll disburse both just as soon as I can upload the photos and put something together.

Ooh do you have a link to the Comfortable Courtesan? It sounds intriguing.

It is so SATISFYING to figure out what was wrong with a story. It is also so frustrating to then have to go back and re-write it...

Praying you find another job soon.

I heard there was some kind of discussion of social networking on FFA, but I hardly ever got there. There was a metanfandom-like newsletter on Dreamwidth, but it died years ago.

Hope you find a job soon. :(

I quit anon memes for a very good reason, but from what I remember there are pockets that are pretty drama free? I'm remembering having decent conversations in the TV shows and pet threads that were fine. It just gets bad in areas that mention other people in fandom, like fic exchanges and fandom venting.

Suppose I could go check myself but I'm having more fun reading and playing candy crush...

Have you been to [community profile] post_tumblr_fandom? It's specific to the 'tumblr coming to DW' and what the future platform should look like sort of fannish meta - not fandom fannish meta (if that makes sense).

What, like I'm ever going to be one of the cool kids in fandom?

I mean, so? We're not the cool kids out of the nerds. Fuck it, we're having fun anyway!

I miss metafandom, too. I learnt *so* much from that community! Someone attempted to reboot it on DW, I believe, but there never seemed to be any momentum. Possibly, and I'm just guessing because I never looked for it, some of the rage and impassioned discussion went to Tumblr?

The Tumblr is coming to DW thing is interesting when I happen upon it — never having been a Tumblr person, I don't put it high on my list of priorities. I definitely don't understand "reblogging", though!

I realised - about 15 years ago - that I was never ever ever going to be one of the cool kids in fandom and know what was going on.

You sound like me, though I probably realised it earlier than that!
