Last night I went to the pre-release of a new set of cards for Magic: The Gathering. My cousin plays it, so do three of his four kids: (14), (11), and (7), and when I came to stay, my cousin invited me to go to the midnight pre-release with him. He went with 11 at midday today, and will be going again with (11) and (14) at midday tomorrow.

It was kind of fun. Definitely has that edge of addictive to it, but I need another hobby like a hole in the head. Honestly: gardening, quilting, cooking/foodying, dressmaking, nailpolish, writing, and I've still got large-ish collections of BPAL, as well as a set of miniatures that I bought from a start up (Toughest Girls of the Galaxy) and still haven't painted.

Anyway, midnight pre-release: setting up a game deck and playing 4 rounds (I played 3 - ended up on one of the byes). Got home at 4:45am, slept until about 9am. Arrived home around 4pm, pretty much undressed, lay down on the bed, and fell asleep. Woke up three hours later covered in cats.

Of my cousin's kids, (14), was away on summer camp.

Her mum said that when she got home, she'd be grumpy and sharp and nasty with everyone for a few days dealing with post-camp letdown, before she became remorseful and cuddly. Frankly, right now, I think I'm in the "I hate everyone and everyone hates me" stage of holiday letdown after spending the last few days with my cousin and his family. Not with my family (the cats are cuddly, the sisters are sistersome), but just looking around at fandom and DW and everything going on.

The lack of sleep probably doesn't help.

I'm a little peeved at [community profile] fandom_stocking: I posted a ficlet for someone back on the 6th, only to discover that gifts wouldn't be opened until the 20th (or 22nd, I can't remember anymore). *sigh* Still, the organiser has enough people peeved at her right now (and always), and I don't imagine it's fun to organise something that big.

There are some people who binge on my fics. They find my AO3 and they go to town. And other people who find my AO3 read through the collection day by day, one fic at a time, doling it out in measured doses.

It's kind of fascinating and heartening. On one hand, to be something that's so addictive, how can you resist gorging? On the other, to be considered something good enough to dole out for a piece of certain delightfulness every day.

I will probably post some WIPs this week (if I remember). Just old fics that have never been finished and are unlikely to ever be so.

It sounds like you had a good little vacation with the cousins! I totally get that post-holiday letdown, though - I actually cancelled some plans with friends after getting back in town from my Christmas visit home because I was too tired and knew I'd be cranky with them.

Also, man, fandom_stocking. I love the theory of it, but the mod is so flakey and the fest is so disorganized that I couldn't do it more than once (I think? I may have attempted it twice).

It's really nice to see a reader either going through all my fic in a binge or taking their time.

I alternate between binging on a favourte or newly found writer's stories and going through them slowly to savour them. It just depends on my mood at the time.

I've definitely done that daily-rationing of fic by individual authors. I mean I don't even manage that now, I barely keep up with my notification emails right now, but I had a whole process I kind of aspire to getting back to.
