We've been playing a preseason game on Friday nights - 6 players each side, half a field, for 4 weeks - and there's another preseason on Sunday - full teams, full field, but the results don't count.
The coaches have been using these preseason games to grade our skills for the teams.
Turns out we have teams in A, C, and D divisions, which is good and bad - good for team 3 not to be forced up into C, but not so great for team 1 which will play in A grade and struggle. The addition of a number of newbies to Team 3 (D division) will mean it'll be a harder slog than last year when probably about a quarter of the team could have played in the next grade up.
Anyway, after the game on Sunday, I was on my way to the car past the opposition dugout, and one of the women from the team we played against started chatting with me, asking about the teams and where our teams/people were playing this year in the new competition. I told her our grades and she asked about whether our Team 3 was going up. I explained why they weren't, and then she asked if I was going up.
I'd told the coaches I was good with either our C or D division teams, and the woman was all, "really? I'd have thought you're at least B-grade!"
So, also nice to have that reassurance!
I've paid my first fees, but the issue of whether my body is going to hold up this year is still a major consideration.
