I couldn't read DW after the weekend's election. It was too difficult processing other people's grief as well as my own. (Honestly, a lot like dealing with Endgame.) Hard enough having to do it on FB, and when I felt myself spiralling down after reading the other despondent/angry posts, I had to back away.

*hugs people*

One of the things I did find helpful in many people I know was the way groups like the ASRC (Asylum Seekers support centre) and Common Grace (Aussie Christians for Social Justice) picked themselves up on Monday and say, "Welp, we're gonna do exactly what we were doing on Friday. We're tired and this is not the outcome we wanted, but we're gonna do it."

Medium.com A technique for getting to a decision: Objective, Reflective, Interpretative, Decisional

Possibly also related to resilience in decision making? Not entirely sure.

Oprah.com A new midlife crisis: happening to middle-aged 'Gen X' women all around you.

This is kind of depressing: while Boomers grew up thinking that things were going to get better, Millenials have grown up knowing that it wasn't, Gen X had to navigate from one state to the other: believing that the future was going to be good and then realising that, well, actually, no, it's not.

The real roots of midlife crisis.

The U-curve that hits in the 40s, from 2014. The previous article - the Oprah one - noted that men hit this later than women, and so women's midlife crisis of "is this as good as it gets" tends to hit earlier, so by the time a man hits it, his (het) partner has already been through this.

YouTube On Toxic Feminity: no, truly. It's good. Jordan Raskopoulos is fantastic.

On food Choices feather and bone butchery: a butcher that focuses on not just 'organic' but biodynamic animal farming, which is about maintaining and improving the land and not just running a business.

Gardening Starting a Women's Garden Changed My Life: I want to do this, only with my front yard.

Am I terrified? Of judgement and assholes and becoming a target? Yes. Yes, I am. I feel like I have to think this one over some. But...there's the nascent bonds of community in these streets here; I'm trying to work out how to harness it. Maybe it's all busy moms and no time for anyone, but...I'd like to try?

"Introvert morning: come, be among people, take a cup of tea, and don't say a thing"? I don't know. Do people even have time/desire to do this?

I have a friend who's just retired who might be up for this? Maybe? A Tea Party in the front yard once a week?

Propaganda Is the tide turning on NewsCorp in Australia?

Unfortunately, with the re-election of the conservatives, Murdoch will be given even freer reign with his propaganda.

Assholes and how to deal with yourself when you were (are?) one: Assholes R Us: online to shout and then never engage.

Ask A Fuck Up: Forgiveness For Abusive Men: an abuser (former?) wants to know if he should ask for forgiveness.

The short answer? Don't bother those women. You're not here to collect forgiveness pokemon; you've realised you were shitty, suck it up and deal with it, asshole.

when I felt myself spiralling down after reading the other despondent/angry posts, I had to back away.

I know how you feel. I've been avoiding the news ever since Trump won the U.S. election because it's too depressing and has pretty much killed all the faith I ever had in humans as a species. And I'm not even American!

hmm, I youtubed it and for sure I've never seen it before!

this article suggests that it was taught in some schools in Queensland and NSW so maybe it just wasn't that popular over in WA....?

Or maybe I just went to the wrong school :)
