Dear Shipoween author,

Well, crap. I didn't expect them to match and pass out assignments so soon, so I hope you'll have patience with me and give me to the end of the weekend to put a bit more detail in my letter.

eta: done!

You can also check out my dear fic writer tag for ideas: I am pretty good with just about all the ideas of previous years and exchanges, because I'm of the 'two cakes' theory - one cake good, two cakes even better!

Thank you for writing for me!

This is very much going to resemble my Trick-or-Treat letter, because I'm signing up for both. I love gen-or-ship stories about my favourites, but I also love stories about my favourites being in relationships - both romantic/sexual and friendship - and I'm really looking forward to reading your fics for me!

Do Not Wants:
- nominated/major character death
- nominated characters as antagonists
- unrequested pairings
- canon rewrites

Likes:
- focus on female friendships
- respectful romantic relationships
- characters showing intimacy/friendship in ways appropriate to them
- alternate universes: what-ifs and fusions both (particularly fond of Jaegers/Pacific Rim, Black Jewels, daemons, and shifters/vampires, but I'm game for a lot of things)
- stories of adventure and drama, where there's something to be achieved
- slices of life: little snapshots of moments in time
- 'getting to know you': stories about how people meet, how their relationships develop, how they come to agreements or settle disagreements between them

Pacific Rim
Mako/Raleigh:
I really love the way this relationship is depicted in the first movie (you can skip or AU what happens to Mako in the PR:U) - the interest, affection, and respect between them as they work out their Drift Compatibility. In spite of the movie not being explicitly romantic, I still love the headtouch on the sea and them working out what happens next.

Give me them in the craziness of their rockstar fame after the Breach is closed. Give me them working together and working their relationship out in the midst of grief and chaos and fame. Give me how they work things out - with or without the Drift. I am up for just about anything with a happy ending.

If you're interested in writing smut for Mako/Raleigh, I recommend my letter for Smutswap 2019.

If you're interested in worldbuilding ideas, then my letter for Worldbuilding 2019 might help.

MCU
Here's my MCU Exchange letter for 2019 if you want some specifics about this fandom. The MCU Exchange letter has all the relationships we could have matched on, and I've added further letters relevant to the pairings below.

Maria/Steve: smut letter 2019 | Marvel Is Marvel 2017 exchange letter
Maria & Pepper: my Marvel Is Marvel 2017 exchange letter has their dynamic (I may have copypasta'd it below, too).
Maria & Sam: See below.
Maria & Laura Barton: See below.

Steve Rogers is a hero whom Maria Hill can't afford. That's the bottom line of it; and that's part of the attraction. How does a strong, capable woman who rose to be Fury's 2IC in a hypermasculine, still-extremely sexualised and sexist world (the female darling of SHIELD is still the sexy, capable Natasha Romanoff - remember Grant Ward's slam in Season 1 Agents of SHIELD?) manage to be in a relationship with America's Hero? Write anything with a happy/hopeful ending for these two, but I want them to actually be together or get together in the course of the story, not just be "romantically inclined friends" by the end of it, please.

Maria and Pepper are probably my flat-out favourite female friendship, even if we’ve never actually seen them on screen together. It’s the potential of them: two competent women, basically 2IC to high-intensity guys, both of them undoubtedly accustomed to being dismissed by most people, but appreciated by ‘our heroes’. For the ‘post-Endgame’ option, I’d like to see them work out how to connect when five years have passed for Pepper which haven’t passed for Maria.

Maria and Sam would be practical, sensible, droll together. I can see Sam flirting with her and Maria flirting back – but for all that, they’re rock solid friends. Give me them working together, hanging out together and snarking about something, playing wingman for each other while out: "yeah, she's giving you the eye; don't do anything that will require me to bail you out."

So. I have a fondness for Laura Barton, secret agent of S.H.I.E.L.D, but also find extremely delightful the idea of an 'ordinary' woman and mother simply being get-out badass. If you want to write a story about how Maria and Laura have to go and rescue the guys from something, then that is okay by me, too. Or how they deal with a post-snapture, post-Natasha world (or a post-Natasha Clint Barton: that's probably going to involve emotional scarring). Please make the story about Laura and Maria and their dynamic, though, not about Natasha.

Harry Potter
Harry/Luna: if you're wanting to write smut, my smutswap 2018 letter:
Ginny & Luna:

Friendships after the book series, becoming accustomed to living in the non-Voldemort-centric world again. I like the idea of Luna being a little bit different in a world of people who are already perhaps 'a little bit different' for various reasons, but 'different' doesn't mean either 'ditzy blonde' or 'completely off the wall'; it just means seeing things from an unusual perspective.

Please note: I read the 7 Harry Potter books and seen the movies. I've watched Fantastic Beasts 1, but not 2. I haven't read Cursed Child, seen the musicals/plays, or followed Pottermore or any of JKR's headcanons. You can go with those or not, as you like it.

Jupiter Ascending
For universe building ideas, you could look at my letter for Worldbuilding 2019,

Jupiter/Caine:
Jupiter & Stinger:
Jupiter & Kiza:

Jupiter and the big wide universe out there. Jupiter and navigating it with the assistance of Caine, Stinger, and Kiza. Working out how to overthrow the Time Capitalists Of Evil? Sure! Trying to navigate the tricksy politics of Entitlement? Why not? Dealing with the whole Splicing caste and what it does to the universe? Go for it!

Jupiter and Kiza friendship - Earth things translating to universe things, confidantes, friendship - although not necessarily over 'girly' things - it's a rough universe out there!

Or perhaps Jupiter and Caine negotiating how the relationship works. I really like it when Caine is depicted as a bit hesitant to accept that Jupiter's really interested in him because of the social dynamics of their situation.

One note about the Bolotnikovs (Jupiter's broader family) I prefer the view of the Bolotnikovs as a rowdy family that's not cruel so much as thoughtless and pushed down to the wire (and so not really able to invest the emotional energy to be kind to each other).

Rogue One
Cassian/Jyn: my letter for Smutswap 2019 | My 2018 smutswap letter
Cassian & Jyn: He's been in the thick of duty and responsibility for the Rebellion, she's been avoiding it as much as humanly possible. How do they deal with each other (during the movie, after the movie in an Everyone Lives/They Survive scenario.

So, my hetswap 2017 letter has a section that specifically deals with Cassian and Jyn, their personalities and the way they relate to each other. If that's something you're looking at writing, then that will probably help you see the way I see them.

While I like Jyn/Cassian as a pairing and friends, I also adore their relationship with Kaytoo, Bodhi, Chirrut, and Baze in a kind of Found Family scenario. Concern in the middle of conflict, tenderness in the middle of terrifying situations, affection in the middle of action - with either a happy or a canon ending. (This is one where the happy/hopeful ending can be ignored, so long as they succeed in their mission. Hope in the darkness.)

Stargate Atlantis
John/Teyla:
John & Teyla & Ronon & Rodney:

All the friendships, all the team, all the crazy shenanigans at Atlantis and through the gates... I particularly love fics in which the characters work to find a compromise or solution, where soft power (negotiation and compromise) are not neglected or scorned, and where power is seen as a slippery slope, to be sparingly and carefully used.

One of the things I particularly liked about SGA was that Teyla was the one with the 'gift' of the Wraithgene - an ability to deal with the Wraith on their own terms and come out on top ("The Queen") - and I'll always resent that the show didn't use that in their 'solution' regarding the Wraith. The SGA Legacy book series does a better job of this - if you want to write anything using that as extended canon, then I am ABSOLUTELY OKAY with that.

If all this is confusing and a bit much (and, really, it's just Shipoween), then don't stress it. Just go with the relationship/fandom we've matched, avoid my DNWs, and we'll be good.

Thank you!
