You know, if this turns out to be Rodney and Katie, the wank is going to be colossal.
Which, I admit, only makes me hope it is.
If it's Teyla, and she's doing it because she's preggers, then... I have only the question: When did we all step in the time machine back to the 50s where a woman couldn't have a child on her own? Okay, two questions: Why are the writers imposing Earth morality on a woman who's never even been to Earth? No, really, is there someone who can explain this to me?
Oh, please let the Athosian morality be something other than "a woman must remain chaste and pure so her husband knows her children are his". I really, really want the Athosians to be matriarchal in bloodline - all mentions of Teyla's father notwithstanding. It would be a nice change in culture, you know?
Personal morality and perspectives aside, it just wouldn't cause as much wank if it was Teyla - unless it were to John, in which case four-fifths of fandom would go utterly 'splodey no matter what the circumstances. That would almost be worth whatever utterly frightening scenario they came up with to produce such an engagement.
And, yes, this is a confirmed and eternal John/Teyla 'shipper speaking. I like the couple. That doesn't mean I'm into declarations of eternal love and multitudinous perfect babies in multiple birth sets.
Anyway, I'm not sure I want to know more spoilers about this one. Best to just let it go, maybe.
disclaimer: I know nothing more than what was in the spoilery post. There may be further spoilers to which I am not privy since I've been avoiding the heavy-duty spoilers wherever possible.

I'm just...slightly surprised by the idea of an engagement at...
Oh. Shit.
What if it's Sam/Jack?

Well, we shippers live in hope, don't we? ;)
But I know there's an episode where Rodney and Katie are stuck together in an enclosed space for a while...

My bet's on Rodney/Katie, since JM & Co couldn't do the baby storyline they had planned.

...
But really. I'm wondering.

... Now you've got me wondering too. Only because it really does sound like something DH would do.

Unlike the John/Teyla angle, which is a very easygoing "well,we'll see how events pan out" kind of attitude, this pairing feels like there's a purpose behind it - the weight of someone pushing for this relationship.

If only they gave Katie more substance. I can only think of 'plants' as her hobby.
I think they learned with the John/Teyla angle. I must admit, season 1 really pushed for John/Teyla, at least during the first half. It's only now that it's easy going.

The fact that it was a pretty woman helped, sure; but I think John would have been as inclusive no matter who it had been.

I'm kinda caught between awe and horror at the possibilities.

Why are the writers imposing Earth morality on a woman who's never even been to Earth?
That's another reason why I don't think the writers would do it. In my opinion, imposing that morality on Teyla would just be subtley preaching to Rachel, since she's also unmarried and pregnant.
Besides, if they do go that way, who says Teyla's going to accept? I'd love to see her go on a bit of a feminist rant. And who says it's gotta be a boy from Earth? Maybe that romantic interest I freaked out about a month ago will be the one to pop the question because she's in a motherly way.

To heck with John. That girl really does have to get some. :D
(Yes. Yes, I am a very bad John/Teyla shipper.)

She gets it all the action off-screen, poor girl. :D

I'd still like to see her get some nookie on-screen, though!

Of course... I have no hopes for it being Sheppard & Lorne :-P.

And, sure, there'll be wank whichever way it goes - but the maximum wank will be produced by the characters that everyone co-opts for their pairings. So John or Rodney's engagement would set the wankstage, while most people wouldn't give Teyla's engagement a second thought (unless it was to John, in which case, there would be wank).
