Trying to beat the scammers at their own game: asking for their email and telling them that I'll PayPal invoice them.

We'll see how it goes.

The item has been with us for over 5 years during which B1 swore up and down she'd find someone to take it, but nobody has. *sigh*

It's actually very functional, it's just not clean-shiny-new. I feel like if we left it on the roadside in some other part of town, it would be snapped up in an instant.

...and someone has asked after it where I posted it in the local group! A regular poster! Someone local! PLEASE LET IT BE REAL.

ERMAGHERSH.

Today is pretty quiet. Neighbour's house goes on sale, that's going to be interesting. I am tempted to be all "out the front, engaging with my chooks and garden" when the people turn up so we weed out those who are less desirable neighbours... *eyes the stream of middle-class peeps looking for a place*

Actually, i do need to do some angle-grinding, and it's not a bad day for it what with the cool and the rain and the 'moderate' fire danger.

The 'back side' of his house more or less looks out on our back porch, so the matter of privacy and good neighbourly relations is important. Also, our chooks are probably Not Regulation according to precise council guidelines, and if someone wanted to get stroppy about it they could.

That said, this is a fairly good area, with relatively open-minded and not-overbearing-neighbourly types. A quiet word is usually sufficient, and while it's not communal, it's a rough kind of community. At least three houses will probably go up for sale in the next five years - older residents. I wish I could get some permaculture-minded people in - that would be so neat! But alas, as noted, it's a fairly good suburbia, and so we'll get fairly good suburbanites, as per the definition of 'suburbanites' that isn't particularly permaculture (which is kinda hippie, kinda greenie, kinda weird: look, I'm decent at passing in all kinds of normie company).

Tomorrow is the big upgrade day: making sure everything is working and connected. I already did some early morning checks at 7:15am (on a Saturday: whew). We needed to run a financial job before we shut the system down, or else Finance would be doing funky things come Monday morning (and Finance is always grumpy, so, yeah, try to avoid that).

Funny: it's council collection week here, and we already have a pile out the front. WIth the neighbour moving, he took the opportunity to get his stuff out a couple of days early - we're not supposed to have it out until Sunday at the earliest to stop people from picking over things. Someone just reversed about 20m back down to road to look at our pile, in a teeny tiny Getz, at a pretty swift clip. It was hilarious: this car drove by, brakes to a stop, then reverses up to check out our pile.

Okay, time to head out to the community garden, plant a few of the tomatoes, then come back home to do the angle-grinding and sorting out the garden. I entered it into the city Garden Trail after all - last year that the current management will be doing it. They're just too busy. But they did a start and it's been pretty cool to see all the stuff going on.

Right. Community garden. Now.
