This is bad. You know why it's bad - state controlled media, emotional blackmail, Dumpfwashing...

Hell, I described it last night, only this time the situation has a twist:

The rest of the world are the neighbours listening to the chaos on the other side of the wall every night, and then it went silent, and we were worried but also kind of relieved that it had stopped. And just as we thought it was going to last...they're back. And we know that it's just going to get worse.

Eu sabia que essa proibição do TikTok seria usada politicamente de forma populista. Ei cheguei a falar disso em vários comentários aqui pela DW, nas últimas semanas antes da sentença final. Tudo esquematizado. E é muito preocupante mesmo porque o que ocorre nos USA afeta não só quem mora nele como o restante do mundo. Meu país já está preocupadíssimo com questões de importação porque o Trump já tentou nos embargar por sermos do BRICS e termos relações de livre comércio com a China (energia, aço, alumínio) e outras mais complicadas com a Rússia (de onde vem nossos fertilizantes). Oh deuses às vezes eu invejo quem não sabe nada do mundo político e vive como aquele personagem do Quino, o amigo da Mafalda que não se preocupa com nada. A ignorância por vezes parece uma benção, mas como sabemos demais sofremos por antecipação.

I know exactly what you mean about the ignorant and blissful. There's even a saying in English about it.

But "suffering in anticipation" is horrifically apt. I just went down a rabbithole of "if the USA heightens its war against China, then a lot of ethnic Chinese (like myself) in both the USA and other countries are going to suffer a lot..."

It was not a pleasant thought. Well, none of this is.

Aqui dizemos "a ignorância é uma benção", e realmente tem hora que eu queria isso.

Acabei de saber que o filho de um político brasileiro quer mandar os congressistas americanos proibirem um ministro do Brasil de entrar nos USA por ele ter proibido o pai desse cara de viajar para a posse. O x da questão é que esse homem (Bolsonaro) foi proibido de sair do país, pois ele está sendo investigado por crimes contra a democracia. Aliados a ele estão refugiados nos USA mesmo com mandados de prisão em aberto no Brasil. Um deles até está na posse do Trump.

Isso me assusta. Os USA não tem poder para proibir um ministro cumprindo seu papel de viajar a outro país só porque ele seguiu as leis.

The whole thing with newspapers and the internet is depressing. Pat and I have one magazine that is notoriously non-partisan. The Week actually quotes articles on subjects from both sides. It's interesting, I'm glad to know what bullshit the other side is spreading, but it doesn't change my mind.

It does at least make me feel like they are trying to really be non-partisan.

I don't think we're going to get much good news for the next four years. (sigh)
