I sorta figure I should do this new year intro "hello" thingy where I introduce myself in order to meet a whole bunch of people who are mostly quiet when it comes to this LJ.
Hello! I'm Tielan and I'm an SGA fan.
I write a lot of fanfic, do a small amount of graphic, mod several active comms (as in 'have had at least one post in the last six months'), and post semi-regularly in a couple more.
I love all the characters in Stargate Atlantis, but my favourites are Teyla, John, and Ronon, with Rodney scraping in there when I'm writing teamfic. Teyla in particular gets a lot of attention from me, mostly because I've found it very difficult to find people willing to give her even a little attention. I'm a big sucker for the underdog - especially when she's such a kickass character.
My favourite pairing is John/Teyla and if you haven't yet realised this, then you probably will just by skimming back a half dozen posts. However, I also write gen with team angles, and am into or have written at various times: Ronon/Elizabeth, Teyla/Lorne, Teyla/Rodney, Teyla/Carson, Teyla/Bates, Teyla/Michael, Rodney/Ronon, Elizabeth/Simon, and Ronon/Keller...uh, and quite a few others.
In case you haven't noticed, Teyla is my Little Black Dress of fandom: she goes with everything!
I love Sam (holdover from SG-1), even through my initial ambivalence about her coming to Atlantis. I like Elizabeth, even through my continuing ambivalence about certain of her fans. I have opinions and I often will speak them; I have a temper and I sometimes will lose it. You probably won't see that, though - I tend to rage elsewhere for the sanity of my f-list.
I'm a sucker for participating or organising ficathons, fic challenges, prompt battles, and awards - particularly if it relates to Teyla or John/Teyla. The spoilers for Season Four don't bother me terribly much: fandom is the sandpit in which I play - canon may or may not influence that. It would be extremely nice to get the show written precisely as I'd like, but I generally try to keep my entitlement issues on a leash.
I have a personal journal, but not much happens in there anymore.
I generally don't mind my LJ being hijacked for discussion (not argument or insults) about a topic.
The full list of what I wrote in 2007 - gen, het, slash and other - is here (also linked above). Lots of short stuff, but a couple of longer stories.
My fandom goal in 2008 is to write 12 longer team, Teyla, or John/Teyla stories. By 'longer', I mean around 5000-10,000 words, preferably more. I have enough story bunnies to get them done - and the bunnies are reproducing at an alarming rate what with Season 4 - best season evah! - I just have to find the discipline to write them!
So, enough about me - let's talk about you for a minute!
I really would love to hear from you about you, especially if you've just started watching this journal, or haven't commented on here before. Regulars are still welcome to chime in, though!

My writing goal for 2008 is to use my newly-acquired Powerz of Novel-writing Awesomeness to finally write my Husband's novel. It's been percolating for ten years now. The weird thing is that for my current story, I've done very little outlining, and the story is really coming up with itself, suggesting twists that make it looooong, but cool. To be fair to the story, I'd spent hours brainstorming it with a couple of different people. Maybe that works better than just outlining.
PS: Thanks for letting me unload my writing squee on you.

Uh, yeah, I like Atlantis. And once upon a time, I wrote some stuff. Then life (for life, read work) interfered, and I lost my powers. So, my goal in 2008 is to get writing again (and also quit my horrible, horrible job).
My journal is both personal and fannish, although I am a quiet fan, who does not interact with the greater majority of fandom. The personal stuff seems to consist mostly of A) talking about cleaning, B) hating my job, and C) a combination of the two.
So, that's me.

What job are you in, by the way?
I've found that the best way to write is usually to set aside some time each day to just sit and write - just say "I'm going to write for twenty minutes from now."
It helps.

That being said, I will finish up my contract at the end of March, and there is nothing my manipulative boss can say that will get me to stay on any longer.
I haven't tried as hard as I could to stick to a schedule - I let my obsessiveness over other things take over ("I need a perfectly scrubbed shower floor more than I need an SGA short fic!"), but I'm trying to work around that.

Re: writing - what I tend to do is sit myself down and say "I'll write for so long," or "I'll add so many words to this story". Depending on time and ideas.
And if all else fails, I take myself somewhere where there's peace and quiet and no internet. :)

I actually wanted to start chatting to people to find some new people to read for my own f-list. So far, all the respondents are already there...

My name is Sharon and I'm from Alabama, USA.
I'm an SGA fan, and I love Teyla, Ronon, and John. McKay's cool too. He'd be annoying but for his redeeming qualities. He's just really socially retarded.
I just wrote my first fanfic about a month ago. I've been reading it for years, though, and you're actually one of my favorite authors. I find your essays quite inspiring as well.
My job is just ok. I work at a wholesale printing company, but I do freelance graphic design and a bit of photography (my major and minor in college, respectively) on the side.
I really like tea.

Anyway, lovely to have you along!

Just thought I'd introduce myself. I found your lj a few days ago by reading something you wrote for SGA Flashfic (I think. I can't remember. I've been OD-ing on fic lately).
You have excellent taste and your take on the show is spot on. By this, I mean your opinions and 'ships seem to match mine (John/Teyla FTW!), which means you are a Right Thinking Person ;)
Seriously, though, I've read some of your fics and they are brilliant. You're an excellent writer and I'm looking forward to making my way through everything you've written.
Thanks for being awesome!

Have you ever read Jane Austen's Emma? There's a scene in there where the young Harriet Smith comes to Hartfield - Emma's home - and is so willing to be pleased by everything in Emma's house and so admiring of everything Emma does that she must have good taste and should be encouraged in it. :)
At any rate, it's lovely to have you around and to get your feedback and opinions on the show and fandom. :)
(sorry about the delay in answering!)

Just bopping over from sgaflashfic where I just read your new AU of Atlantis where the City of the Ancients has a multi-cultural Pegasus contingent. Comments show you plan to continue this storyline and I'd love to read more !!!
I pretty much just lurk. I found fandom (zines & friends)in college 25-30 years ago, online fandom about 10 yrs ago, and lj a couple yrs back. Even got an account so I could give feedback that wasn't anonymous *go me!* This is what keeps me sane when RL tries to drive me INsane *g*.
Your user info says it's ok if I friend you so I am :-) take care~~

Hi! Always nice to meet new people! And, wow, you are a long-time fan. I've only been around fandom for 7 years, and all of that was online, starting on the mailing lists and ending up on LJ.
I'm glad you liked the Pegasus Ascendant universe! I have a bad habit of writing one-shots for the sga_flashfic challenges that then turn into monstrous epics. *looks embarrassed* I'm hoping that I can finish this one within a reasonable number of words (and a reasonable time!).
Nice to meet you!

My favourite characters in SGA are probably John, Rodney, and Teyla, though I also adore Zelenka and Ronon. Elizabeth, Lorne, and Sam are pretty awesome, too, and I wish we got to see a bit more of Chuck every once in a while. (So, uh, yeah, pretty much everyone is my favourite character, depending on my mood and what I've read or watched most recently *grin*)
I found and friended this LJ because I enjoy reading your SGA fic -- particularly because you tend to focus in on Teyla, and, well, there can never be enough Teyla fanfic.
I'm more of a reader and general consumer of fanworks than a creator. I like making up dialogue and playing around with the characters, but I don't really have the discipline to follow through and turn scenes into stories. I think the limit of my writing ability is probably drabbles. :-)
I do enjoy discussing the show, and speculating and debating about what things mean and how they fit together. And occasionally celebrating the crack that sometimes shines through in this show (exploding tumours, anyone?).
Mostly, I just derive an immense amount of enjoyment from this show, and I love that others seem to enjoy it as much as I do -- enough that they write great fic or put together awesome vids or create stunning works of art, anyway.
So, uh, yeah, that's me. Hi. :-)
