Who He Is When Teyla's Looking
He likes the moments when they're not in the mess, not on mission. Sitting in his room or hers or one of the rec rooms with the door open just in case people want to peer in, when he's playing guitar and she's reading a book, or he's got his PDA and she's got Rodney's PSP, and the only sounds are the waves coming through the open windows and the noises of whatever they're doing.
Today, it's Eric Clapton and Warcraft on someone's borrowed laptop.
It started back when the expedition really was marooned. Time out; time away. Time to get to know each other - first as allies, then as team-mates, then as friends. John tried not to think of it as 'time together' because that suggested that they were...well...more than they were.
And, in the end, Teyla's always best for quiet company.
Rodney's good for conversation and an argument, when John's in the mood to challenge or be challenged - usually in something geeky. He can be a nerd with Rodney.
Ronon's good for a beer and someone to do things with. Not that Teyla isn't up for doing things, either, but John can be a guy with Ronon.
John goes to Teyla when he wants peace and acceptance and someone who doesn't grate. He can just be John Sheppard with Teyla.
