Of course, the end is not in sight, the next section is a terrifyingly delicate maze of character development, character interaction, and situational redevelopment that I have to negotiate without losing sight of where the story is going and where I need the characters to be at when I spring the main event on them, while still maintaining a well-paced plot.

And now I'm going to go off and write something else for a while.

Thanks! I think I might just stick with what I've got for the moment. It may involve some moments of blackest writing despair and hair-tearing on this LJ, but hopefully those will be largely in the minority.

It actually only took me a month from 1,000 words to 20,000. I'm hoping it'll take around the same time from 20,000 to 40,000...
