An outspoken fan has revealed the shocking truth about John/Teyla over at JoeM's blog:
"It is well past time for SGA to stop trying to push Sheppard/Teyla. It's immoral, it's sexist, it's racist, it subverts everything that's been established about these characters"
Did you know this? Why didn't anyone tell me I was being immoral?

HOW CAN I POSSIBLY CONTINUE TO SHIP JOHN/TEYLA WHEN CLEARLY IT GOES AGAINST ALL THAT IS GOOD, DECENT, AND HOLY IN THE UNIVERSE???!?!?!

It may be time for a new LJ name...

ETA: I bet it's the same poster that posted this comment that I noted back in April! It sounds like her.

Dear Anonymous Commenter:

Dear God. Did you really have to be such a nitwit? Really?

*facepalming like you wouldn't believe*
Monday, July 21st, 2008 05:16 am (UTC)
Oh, you've got to be fucking kidding me.

And on that note I'm going to bed, leaving the crazy of the interwebs behind for another day.

Geez.
Monday, July 21st, 2008 05:17 am (UTC)
it was probably sent by one of those shmucks who thinks "oh John can do better than her" (and who is herself all of what she accuses John/Teyla of being)

seriously, I don't see how it could be racist. (see my upcoming The Mummy 4 review)
Monday, July 21st, 2008 05:39 am (UTC)
I just read that. I'm like, "What show are they watching?!"

The immorality is the only thing I can see that remotely applies, but even that's a stretch. . .but sexist and racist? Uhm. . .huh?

Another comment that stood out to me was someone talking about how the baby didn't look like it could be Teyla and Kanaan's. Like, huh? Actually, I think they did an excellent job picking out a baby that has both of their features, if you want to nitpick (Kanaan's nose, a mix of both their complexions, and brown air like Teyla). *shrug* Apparently some opinionated viewers are on drugs this season.

Well, I can see how someone could think it was sexist if you were squinting and overly sensitized to the skeevy side of office romances, i.e. where the boss preys on the female employees and/or the female employees either pine hopelessly over their male bosses who ignore them or use sex to manipulate said male bosses. If you're overly sensitized to that, then any sort of attraction between a man and a woman who work together is sexist one way or another. (The fact that in this case a) there's no predation or manipulation and b) there's no pining, despite the attraction seems to have escaped the idjit.) No clue how they got the "racist" and "immoral," though.

WTF?

Okay, this is why I don't stick around in Atlantis fandom much anymore. I CAN'T TAKE THE CRAZY PEOPLE. I stick in non-angry corners of fandom where we all gather for the revolutionary notion of having FUN and ENJOYMENT with the show.

Good lord. Just because she doesn't like the pairing doesn't mean that it goes against the fabric of all creation. The Anonymous Commenter needs some perspective...

Person is a jerk. How is it sexist? It's TV, what the hell is wrong with people?
Monday, July 21st, 2008 06:24 am (UTC)
That is the most absurd posting I believe I've ever read. This poster is very delusional and is a prime example of the type of fan that gets actors responding like Joe Flanigan did on Chelsea Lately, as crazy fans. "Our fans are passionate", Chelsea said, "Crazy". I have always been able to understand where people get the idea that fans are crazy.

I really hate it when a fan tries to convince people on the show that their idea is the way things are supposed to be.

I think all of you have hit upon the truth. All different facets of the same person.

No wonder people in the entertainment industry and at the Scifi Channel don't respect fans. The ones that stand out are always the lunatic fringe.

Another perfect specimen of a fandom fuckwit being offended for the sake of being offended - and being totally off base.

It kind of strikes me that such commentary comes from a white McShepper who is, quite frankly, trying way too hard. You can pretty much bet, that if the person was pushed for reasoning, it'd be racist in its own right.
Monday, July 21st, 2008 07:22 am (UTC)
this screams of someone whose heart has been broken by the mere thought of john/teyla becoming canon and yes i agree crazy fan comes to mind.

i actually thinks the baby looks a little like rachel's son, my boyfriend keeps asking is that her real kid.
Monday, July 21st, 2008 07:35 am (UTC)
How the hell do they think it's immoral, sexist, racist or subverting the characters - let alone all four of those?!

Monday, July 21st, 2008 02:13 pm (UTC)
There is not enough WTF in the world. Why can't some people accept they're shipping a non-canon ship and get on with their lives? I thought this was why we had fanfiction in the first place.

*is a happy Sam/Daniel shipper*

o.O This is so sturpid that words fail me... *sigh*

I think you may be right.

Reading it at JM's blog got me giggling before I went to work. It's just... Get over yourself already. I hope JM put her in her place.

Well, obviously I am NOT watching the same show nor am I getting all my memos.

I can't see Teyla feeling threatened by John, she could so kick his ass.

It's immoral, it's sexist, it's racist
I don't see how it's any of those.

Immoral, as far as we know she is not married to Kanaan and no one knows after everything that went on in S4 if Kanaan and Teyla are still together or if they will be together in the future. And if they aren't together in the future, what is the issue with John and Teyla getting together other than it not fitting with the poster's world view.

Sexist, the only time I ever saw Teyla unnerved by John was when he was Bug!John and then, iirc, he backed off when he regained some control. Now you could say that John is intimidated by Teyla ;).

Racist, uhm, :: scratches head :: that doesn't even deserve a response it's sooooooo ridiculous.

People frighten me sometimes.

Um hi! **waves**

I wandered over to read your fic and saw this. Had to join with the wtf-ery. I am a bit gobsmacked about the whole thing, and yet not really all that surprised.

Sigh...
