MGM giveth and MGM taketh away!
And all the fans said: "A plague on both your franchises!"
Maybe not quite, but you must admit, the timing is...well...atrocious. Clearly TPTB didn't learn too well from Jonas and Season Six: don't introduce the new guy at the same time as you boot the old out the door. Big mistake. Big. Huge.
Anyway, the Stargate: Universe series sounds...um...like Stargate: Voyager. Except with a 'younger, hipper cast' (did anyone else think of Marty whathisname from the SG1 episode "200" or was it just me? That sequence cracked me up - and the team's responses on top of that - BWAH!) and I have a really bad feeling about this blurb.
*facepalm*
I'll give it a fair chance - as I've told various people today. Brad Wright has always been one of my favourite PTB, and not quite as...shall we say 'forthright' as JoeM? Plus, he once hugged
allisnow, and how could we possibly not like him for furnishing us with five years' worth of teasing opportunities? *starts putting on the flameproof suit* As long as they don't suddenly discover how they can get back to Earth at the end of Season One. *puts on the helmet and fastens it up tight* And it would help if the lead wasn't a white male but, you know, someone outside the traditional sci-fi tropes. *tugs on the gloves* But right now, a part of me is dancing a jig in the background and tunelessly singing, "Mock, mock, mockity-mock!"
And now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go hide from Alli.
*waves the icon to distract Alli, then jogs off*

I pretty much agree with everything you said here about the upcoming show...

Seriously, I've got a ton of driving to do over the next day, so I might as well.

Hee. Yeah, that's never what I want to hear. It always seems to mean 'young actors chosen for the pretty instead of the ability to act' and 'stories written to showcase the prettiness and hipness rather than to be interesting or make sense.' :)) Although, if they're wanting something BSG-like, it may just mean...younger.

It's not like I'm all, "OMG, they are MURDERING my fave show evah!" But the only reason I was still watch SGA is because I like Teyla. I'm not really interested in seeing the same stories rehashed a third time. Or more than that, since (as you say), it sure does sound a lot like "Voyager." With like a younger, hipper cast.
Yawn.

I like your idea of the lead not being a white male. That would definitely be something new. Though I don't know what 'big name' I would like to see in the stargate franchise...
I wonder what kind of resident alien they will have...

I thought the exact same thing about the "teen movie" bit from '200'! The "aiming for a younger audience" bit is never a good sign. I'll give it a chance, since it promises increased Space Porn, but I'm not getting my hopes up. And I, too, am desperately hoping that they don't reestablish contact with Earth this time.
Maybe if the concept is good enough, there will be some fic where the Atlantis people end up on this Destiny ship. AU FTW!
