Does anyone else get the feeling that RL has given up on Stargate already?

She's not mentioned in any of the episode descriptions other than 'The Queen'. JM hasn't talked anything about Teyla in a while. And her most recent message on her site is "goodbye and thanks for supporting Atlantis", which, with at least 4 weeks of shooting left, is not encouraging.

I keep expecting to discover that Teyla dies or vanishes in 'The Queen' - kind of like Kate Heightmeyer, you know?
Monday, August 25th, 2008 08:52 am (UTC)
Killing her or having her vanish would be the point where I consider the show to have totally jumped the shark.

I kind of get the impression that a few of the actors had given up on this show last season - at this point, it seems to me like they are going through the motions, so I'm not reading too much into it...

*sticks fingers in ears* I can't hear you!!

Seriously if they did that I'd be pissed...

The site message makes sense. If she wants to do the movies, then she can't say "screw you assholes" like Torri did. (And to be clear, I don't blame Torri one teensy little bit.)

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] beaniesheppard that it's kind of seemed like people were going through the motions. Certainly Jason was quite clear--understandably so--about being unhappy. Rachel seems like she's all about being a mom at the moment. Joe...well, who knows. David's the only one of the team who still seems into it, and even he hasn't said much at all about the cancellation.

I think that for me, canon will probably end after "Search and Rescue".

I wonder if that's the reason McKay is getting so many episodes that really focus on him. David is the only one stroking the writers ego, while the rest of the cast is maybe pointing out how recycled and dry the 'plots' of some episodes.

Yeah I noticed that; and I think the episode synopses have been very... not Teyla.

In a way, I kind of hope something dramatic does happen in The Queen.

Oh, God. That would make three out of three favorite Atlantis characters dead or gone or something. So I hope not.
Monday, August 25th, 2008 01:45 pm (UTC)
i hope not, because then i would completely give up on the show.

Really interesting thoughts I agree with what you all said that a lot seem to have abandon the show but I don't want to say too much because before the Shrine I had good hope for a great ending and once again I feel stuck with a Shep McKay and even perhaps Keller show so I'm really disappointed and I totally understand the point of view of Jason Momoa he was let behind since season 4 a lot I don't even can say if he is in the show or no. We know they can make awesome team eps in what it's so difficult what did they stick with this ? I say this but it seems that a lot of people really like The Shrine what is odd because IMO he has all that people complain before a character centered and particularly a McKay Shep hour and a full blown (? sorry again for my english) romance.

As for Teyla she has the Prodigal after and apparently she is always here because it seems to have a lot of action and particularly for Teyla so I really hope that as always we are misleading because they focus a lot on McKay and Keller. I never believe I would have say this but if there isn't Teyla so I can understand why they canceled the show (I know I play the melodramatic but lately I had several deceptions with Stargate Atlantis and Teyla it's really more than never what make the show for me even if i love David Hewlett I'm tired of his genius if they had give such great scenes to other actors I'm sure thay would have shine too because the cast is great.)

This all very depressing. And I haven't even started watching the new season yet (I got my friends addicted and they're catching up with season four. Apparently, I'm not allowed to watch s5 without them. Cute, considering they always teased me for being so into sci-fi).

I didn't realize Atlantis wasn't coming back until I read it on your site a couple days ago. And now this?

Too sad for words. One of my favorite things about Atlantis is its potential. I can't help but think that with yet another major cast member gone (and my favorite no less) the spirit and morale of the show would seriously suffer.

Hopefully it isn't anything as dramatic as Teyla being gone for good.

I'm so very dissapointed in TPTB for not using Teyla's character to it's full potential when they had the chance.

She was barely in 'the Shrine', which I thought was unfair. John had his moment with Rodney, Ronon even did to a cetain extent, and Teyla was in the background mostly (as seems to be her role in any episode were she isn't integral to the plot). I understand she can't always be the center of attention, but there was so much the character could have added to story lines.

I keep expecting to discover that Teyla dies or vanishes in 'The Queen'

If that were to happen, I think I'd give up on the show completely.

Honestly, I wouldn't read that much into it. I think Rachel's goodbye message was just in acknowledgement of the cancellation announcement. And JM? Well, he doesn't talk a whole lot about her in general for the most part. I remember being surprised a few times this season with fairly significant Teyla bits in episodes that weren't in the spoiler bits on JM's blog. She's supposed to have more stuff in the back half of the season, so he'll probably talk more about her as those episodes get closer to airing. I don't think she's going anywhere, so I really wouldn't worry.

Now, those bastards better not prove me wrong!

I found the message to be a bit sad. I think she may be a bit tired of the politics of fandom as well as the news about the end of the show. Their were a lot of fans, even Teyla fans that made a big fuss about the *baby* storyline and S4 being one of the worst seasons ever. I would not doubt that she has not had a few *fans* throw that at her, which is even sadder in light that should have been a joyous time for her and her fans.

As I mentioned in another post to you, there are other eps that Teyla *should* have major parts in other than Queen...Prodigal and Inquisition being two. Hoping we see something of her in Vegas...HOPING.

My theory on the big use of Keller...Firefly. Jewel has a big following as a result of that show and if you saw the response she got at the comic con you could understand the marketing sense of using her to draw in those viewers.

Hi !
Sorry I just wanted to answer to this to say that I totally agree with you on the reaction about the pregnancy of Teyla in season 4 among Teyla fans. I can even say I was disappointed with these reactions. I'm sadly one of the few people in Gateworld that tried to support how much I love this storyline for Teyla. I'm tired of explaining it everytime so i should write it once and for all on my lj lol.
But what I love is going to her site I really hope people aren't so bad to put bad messages but I love to see how much fans she had and in the end I think it's the place where she probably goes the more. I think she knows she has great fans and from the interview that we had everytime she seems really happy with her storylines and her new life as a mother.
And thanks to rashka38 I saw the interview and she seems there until the end and happy and glad for the fans.
I was more than once disappointed because I watch the show for the same reason that Tielan : Teyla, Teyla/John, the team but except for the Shrine and the screentime of Keller (that I don't want to develop I fear to seem anti or I don't know what) I think Teyla screentime AND storyline were good in season 5 and I really really hope that I won't again be disappointed because I fear that except The Queen we don't see teyla a lot. As I said the only moment where we had promotional caps for Teyla was in The Shrine and it's the ep where we saw her the least so perhaps we will be agreably surprised :D

And if it makes you feel any better, I found this interview (http://stargate-sg1-solutions.com/blog/?p=1540) about the cancellation with Rachel and Paul McGillion, and it says that they talked to the two of them while they were filming the episode 'Identity,' so we know she's around in the 17th episode, plus she says something about making sure to have as much fun as possible filming these last few episodes.

She also says: "I think, truthfully, we were all very shocked by the news. We all kind of figured that we’d be going for at least another season."

So if she was expecting another season, Teyla's not going anywhere!
