Shortly off to [livejournal.com profile] sharim's wedding!

Going to see a whole bunch of old SG1 S/J fans, hang out with friends (i just typed 'fiends', which they are, too) and have a grand old time with some oldtime S/Jers!

...although her quilt is still not finished. Um, and neither is [livejournal.com profile] suds_from_aus' - well, the top's done, I just haven't been able to get it out to be quilted! *is embarrassed* Hopefully Christmas if the quilter's load isn't too much.

(curious thought of the day: "that's so gay" is an insult; what about "a gay old time" - a la the Flintstones' old themesong?)

"A gay old time" dates from back when gay simply meant "happy, cheerful". I'm 52, and as recently as my teens I heard the term used that way, with not a single adolescent in the audience sniggering, although we were all aware of the range of meanings.

I have a cousin whose given name is Gay (she isn't) she is - I believe - 5 years younger than me, so born in 1963. She was in college in the early 80's when she felt the need to change her name to Gianne (not a name on her birth certificate) for a while, but decided that Gay was a fine name sometime in the '90's, and has gone by that ever since.
