Thanks to everyone who offered advice, questions, suggestions, and pointers in my selection of an e-reader; I know most of you have the Kindle and are super-happy with it, but I opted for the Sony Reader Touch in the end - PRS-650, with touch-screen, e-ink, and MP3 option.
Now to get some SD cards and start listing the authors/books I want to take with me when travelling in Europe later this year!

stef94, may be in Amsterdam for a brief time (possibly REALLY brief) - able to meet? Alternatively, am in Paris from the 6th-14th May, I believe, and if there's anyone able to meet up in that area, I can ditch the parentals for a few hours and happily plonk myself down in a cafe somewhere to chat! (It will have to be specific days, since maternal unit has the Paris section of the trip carefully mapped out.)
Will post travel details shortly: I'd like to meet people if I can wing the schedules. If. :)
