Also, it was Kate Freelander Love Day over at sanctuaryforall on the 4th: I know that most of my f-list who watch Sanctuary are 'meh' about her (especially compared to their fannish adoration of The Five), but it would be nice to see some of her fans go over and wave the flag, show some love. Please?

Wow, that's an incredibly lackluster fannish love post. Hopefully I can add to it before LJ crashes again.

Well, it was more of an 'opinion' post about Kate; but notable for having very few people actually enthused about her.

I'm tired of the 'meh' people being louder about female non-white characters than the fans - yet I can never find fannish fans who are SQUEE about them without needing a whole chorus of squee behind them.

Hell, even Arthur/Gwen seems to have petered out in Merlin fandom and it doesn't get much more canon than that.

I can totally understand your frustration with that. Actually, I share similar feelings, because there are a lot of non-white female characters that I adore. But I can imagine my perspective is different than yours, and I know our fannish experiences are different.

And wait, what? Arthur/Gwen has petered out? It's not just Merlin canon, it's CENTURIES' worth of canon. I mean, how do you peter out on such an epic love story?

...wait, this is fandom, I shouldn't even ask. *headdesk*

If you check the Merlin newsletter, it's almost entirely Arthur/Merlin these days, with Arthur/Gwen only occasionally popping up.

A/G has its fans, of course, but there doesn't seem to be as much enthusiasm as there was in the hiatus last year...

Oh, for heaven's sake, fandom. Get with it! It's Arthur/Guinevere. It's the literal definition of epic. *sigh* That's really disappointing; I thought that, once they went canon with Arthur/Gwen, the het fans would really latch on. Are they, um, still mostly obsessed with Arthur/Morgana instead? (I find that pairing basically so wrong, but that's because of Arthurian legend, not because of the show.)

I notice there's still Gwen/Morgana being written, but it's definitely taken a rather angsty turn lately. :(

I don't know. I never got into the Arthur/Morgana aspect of the show. There was a brief resurgence when S3 started to show, because of the whole "Arthur hunting for Morgana high and low" angle (although, it was definitely Uther pushing) and "I'm glad you're back" riff played between them a couple of times.

There's been a revelation mid-season that put a little bit of the kibosh on Arthur/Morgana, though.

I'm a bit disappointed myself - even in-fandom, a lot of the Arthur/Gwen stuff I saw around tended to be modern AUs. Then again, the show doesn't give Gwen a lot of agency, so that probably doesn't help when you're trying to write a story that isn't just about her and Arthur getting together...
