2,400 words. A lot of groundwork, and Nick still has to have A Conversation With Maria...

Considering this is the first of 13 sections, I don't think I have to worry about this story not being long enough. On the other hand, considering this is the first of 13 sections...I suspect I have to worry about whether I'll get it finished in time.

Here's hoping the other characters are a little more forthcoming than Nick!
