Hey there!
First of all, thanks for writing for me!
I hope you don't find the assignment arduous and that this post doesn't scare you too much. A little concern is okay - after all, it's good to try to colour within the lines. Full-blown panic is very not good and I don't want this assignment to stress you out. Just keep calm, take it one day at a time, and know that I am very very happy that you are writing for me!
I like female characters and female-centric stories. She should be the one doing stuff, the keystone, the lynchpin, the central character. My ideal fics are usually the genderswapped heroic narrative tropes. This is your standard "boy has problem, boy must conquer problem, boy saves the day, boy gets nookie at the end" story, except that the boy is actually a girl.
That's the ideal, but if you can't manage that, then anything character-based, interactive, friendship, and funny is fine. The genderswapped heroic narrative trope is simply my "ERMAGAWD" option, just in case you're so inclined!
Fandom: Dragon Prince Trilogy - Melanie Rawn
Characters: Jahnev, Jihan, Sionell, Pol
Notes:
I have always wanted a story about Jihan and Jahnev, preferably a story in which they eventually get together, in spite of her being all fiery and reckless and headstrong, and him being calm and cool and mature. I know that Jihan is more usually paired with Meig (for those who engage in Next Generation speculation for the Princedoms series) but I like the idea of Jihan falling head over heels for a man who sees her as beautiful and reckless and not for him.
Or else, if that's too much of a stretch, perhaps their interactions growing up, being adolescents together, getting in trouble with whatever other NextGens you want to include?
Failing that, I would like the epic (or not-so-epic) story of how Pol and Sionell actually get together post-Skybowl. Angst, humour, adventure, romance - whatever!
And if that's not an option, then go for Pol and Sionell interacting: friends, princes, adversaries...hey, Feylin's supposed to be pretty good with a bow, perhaps Sionell learned from her mother? What about Pol having to do some sunrunning and Sionell has to keep him safe while he does? Pol could be all "I'm the trained fighter!" when he gets back from sunrunnning and Sionell is all "excuse me for saving your miserable ass" and then there could be kissage.
I'm just sayin'!
Extra stuff: I love the politics of Rawn's stories, the relationships and interrelationships between so many characters. It's complicated, but it's delightful to watch the characters strike sparks off each other - or trade jokes, or spar or flirt. I love the politics of the Princedoms, the sunrunning, the way the families are all connected and almost incestuous in their blood connections and then the bonds formed by fostering.
I love that the female characters are strong and independent, but that this is never mentioned - as Meiglan notes in either Stronghold or The Dragon Token: where the women of Pol and Sioned and Rohan's acquaintance never have their intelligence drawn attention to, because they're expected to be clever and think for themselves.
Mostly, I love this world and these characters and want a story about them. Whatever works for you, dear Yulegoat!
Fandom: Iron Seas series - Meljean Brook
Characters: Anne Blacksmith, Mina Wentworth
Notes:
A story about Anne Blacksmith, please - possibly growing up, with perhaps a look at how it intersects with Mina's as a cop? The world of Bugger London is fascinating and I'd love a look at the social strata, the layers of society that Anne would walk through and how they perceive her - particularly in the light of her half-Horde ancestry.
Extra Notes: One of the things I particularly loved about 'The Iron Duke' was the intricate look at social strata, prejudice, racism, and technology that the book looked at. There's this 'Victorian' society, but it's been stripped of the niceties, and while Mina has a certain amount of privilege thanks to her family, she's also witness to a lot of the less pleasant parts of it thanks to her ancestry.
What kind of strata would Anne see? How would she be treated because of her ancestry? What does she think of all the things going on around her - the changes in perception of society because of Mina and Mina's association with Trehearn?
Fandom: Psy-Changlings - Nalini Singh
Characters: Sienna Lauren, Sascha Duncan
Notes:
Sienna Lauren finding a little stability after she starts spending time with the Dark River changelings (before Kiss Of Snow), and how she and Sascha interact. Perhaps her friendship with Kit pre- or post-Snow? (cue Hawke: "You can't be friends with a baby cat alpha.")
Alternatively Sienna and Sascha after Kiss of Snow having to step out beyond their guys and do something else, or get out of a sticky situation using their wits and Psy skills. (I'd love to see Sascha have to use her skills as an E-Psy offensively.)
Extra stuff: The reason I love these books is primarily the action and plot - the relationships are pretty cool and the sex is steaming, but what draws me in is the way we start of with this very simple view of Psy society and then bit by bit it layers and fractures and layers and layers.
While I am very much intrigued by Nikita and Anthony and the manner of their relationships with Sascha and Faith respectively, I'd really like to see more of Sienna. There's a part of me that really liked Kit (actually, I've often wondered whether we're going to get to see more of Kit in a later book) and was kind of sorry that Sienna was obviously earmarked to be with Hawke. But yes, Sienna. And Sascha. Being friends. Dealing with their men. Possibly Sienna and Kit?
Also, if you're so inclined, Yulegoat, I have a "nextgen" fondness for Ben/Marlee. If you're so inclined. It's just a thought. :)
Fandom: Spider-man (Ultimateverse)
Characters: Detective Maria Hill
Notes: I'm a Maria Hill fan. Mostly from the Avengers movie, but a little from the comics. I love her take-no-prisoners attitude, I love her badassery in the movies, I love her independence in the comics. I love that she isn't a fan of the Avengers and that she has her concerns about it when everyone else is all over them.
Frankly, I imagine Maria's a badass wherever she goes, and I'd just like a Maria Hill story that reflects her character - hard and tough and determined, but doing what she thinks is right, even if it's not the same way everyone else is going.
Mostly, I want something that manages to showcase Maria as the good gal rather than the bitch standing in everyone's way. Dealing with a situation that a superheroes team has their fingers all over. Solving a case that others have long given up on. Doing what's right, even when it's not the popular thing to do.
If you have it in you...well, Steve Rogers/Maria Hill is my Marvel Cinematic Universe OTP. I know, it's an infernal leap for most brains! (Not mine, obvs.) But if you have it in you, I would adore and worshipyou if you wrote them. If not, Maria is wonderful and I will still love you forever and ever amen!
edited 9th Nov for clarity: Basically, I want a Dt Maria Hill story set in Ultimate-verse. If you can see your way clear to putting in some kind of a Maria/Steve Rogers dynamic, it would be awesome. If you can't, just write Maria and it will still be awesome. I want Maria-fic, the Maria/Steve relationship would be an optional extra.
Extra stuff: This is very much a 'character' request rather than a plot request. As I noted, I want a Maria-centric fic, and I don't mind terribly much what so long as she's the protag. I think of Maria Hill as the kind of woman who does her job. It's not a nice job and it's not one that's going to get her any praise, but she does it because it's the right thing to do.
Most of the time, she does things by the book because that's why the book is there. However, from time to time, she throws the book out the window and does it her own way - usually in quite a spectacular manner.
Once again, thanks so much for writing for me this Yuletide; I really appreciate it!
