remix redux

Debating if I want to go in for Remix Redux 2014.

Pros: I think I might get lucky and be more matchable in MCU.
Cons: I'll probably end up getting matched with yet another person who seriously doesn't write my kind of thing.

I often find it easier to be matched on someone who writes very different pairings/style/tropes than i do. remixing someone who's stuff is similar to your is *really* hard, at least in my experience.

I like remixing other people's takes on pairings/tropes that I like. It makes more of what I like and possibly encourages other people to make more of what I like.

And, frankly, what I like is rare enough that I always always always want more of it.

I generally just take comfort in the fact that I can always gen-ify a pairing i don't write (which is most because, um, hello, primarily a genfic writer ;-) )

I am debating signing up, too. Technically, I qualify in two fandoms: MCU and Supernatural. But I haven't read or written Supernatural in four years, so I wouldn't offer it, but with my luck, I'd match on MCU and the person would write me SPN. (Of course, I suppose I could go through and make all of those stories private and/or list them under my alternate pseud until remix is over?)

... I guess this is what happens when you leave a fandom and don't write for basically half a decade.

I'm not terribly worried about someone else remixing me; I'd just like to get someone who writes stuff I can remix. Four out of the five times I've signed up, I ended up with someone who wrote 90% slash and one or two gen fics.

Three out of those four times, it was really difficult to find a gen story that I wanted to remix.

Ahh, I see.

I love remixing (and being remixed), but I wish there were a way to fix the lotto to get what you want to do.

I'd settle for having someone I could reasonably write for...

Which is why I'd really like to see at least 'genre' added to these things. Or something like 'prefers female characters'.
