The long version.
Steve and Natasha: friendly, on the verge of flirty, but not crossing that line. I feel like Natasha doesn't have so many friends that she's willing to burn one who knows who she is (or isn't) and exactly what she can do for the risk of a good time. But she puts it out there – almost as a dare to herself: to know exactly where Steve is and where she stands with him.
Nat was totally awesome, btw. But people will squee over her a lot more so I don't have to do that much here. :D
Eeeee! MARIA HILL OMG AWESOME! "That thing was squeezing my brain. Who's he?" *gurgles*
I loved the scene with Maria and Natasha standing at the window, watching Fury. Beautifully done by both actors – Natasha got the lion's share of focus, but Maria's initial reaction to Fury's death was pretty powerful, too. And I don't think it was acting – standing at the window, Maria was just as affected as Nat.
I bet, though, she was informed of the situation by the doc just before she asks to take the body.
Shooting the guys coming for her in the S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ? Bang-bang and she moves her ass. Balls of steel, that woman. BALLS OF STEEL. And that last call she makes: "Steve..." "Just do it!" AND SHE DOES. I love a woman who does what she has to
Yes, there are fic potential ideas up the WAZOO!
Plus, Maria and Pepper working together at Stark Industries – that smile she gave when she's tied down to the lie detector at the end? HOLY SHIT GIVE ME THAT FIC! GIVE ME THAT FIC NOW!
The whole thing with Steve and Bucky was wonderful. You do need to be up on the franchise, I think, and they have SO SET UP THE WHOLE THING for a Cap 3.
How cute is Sam? He's just a sweetheart from start to finish (I have this horrible feeling that something bad is going to happen to him in future movies.) - that opening scene when he's panting away. "I assume you've done another lap already?"
I want Steve & Sam buddy fic. SO BAD. No slash, just a couple of soldiers, one modern, one historical, being buddies, exchanging stories...not training together... "Pass left." The setup was good – so good – Steve and an old friend and a new; Steve and an old love and the possibility of a new.
Speaking of which? That scene with Peggy? *sobs* The dementia? The expression on his face? The advice she was giving before she had her spasm. Whoever wrote that scene doesn't have a heart. Or loves the suffering of others. *sobs some more*
And the setup! Oh. Em. Gee. The setup for the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. That was bloody amazing. Although the discovery of Zola had the requisite Monologue Of Evil – and bringing HYDRA back from within S.H.I.E.L.D. was certainly impressive. I'm kinda bummed that they made Jasper Sitwell evil, though.
That scene where Steve gives the speech to S.H.I.E.L.D? And the tech refuses to launch the helicarriers? That was amazing. Really really amazing. And illustrated perfectly the choice between doing what the tech thinks is right and dying, and doing what he suspects is wrong and getting to survive. A beautiful, beautiful moment of courage and bravery, even before Sharon spoke up.
Speaking of which, Sharon was in this movie a bit less than I imagined (not that I'm complaining: I'm so much happier that Maria got more scenes).
So what happens with Agents of SHIELD now? What happens with Maria, seeing as she's now working at Stark Industries? (MARIA AND PEPPER KEEPING TONY IN LINE, I'M JUST SAYIN')
Post-Movie Teaser 1: HOMG WHAT THE HELL S.H.I.E.L.D. HOW DID YOU LET THE SCEPTER FALL OUT OF YOUR CONTROL? (Also, ugh, The Accents Of Evil.)
Post-Movie Teaser 2: BUUUUUCCCKKKKYYYYYYYY!! *sound of my heart breaking*
Oh, and
andveryginger suggested the break-in to Fort Meane to get Sam's Falcon suit as an Ocean's Eleven-style thing, which then calls into question exactly which others they called in... I'd love to write that, but I'd want to write it with Maria, and it's pretty clear that she wasn't in on the break-in with them.
I'm pretty sure there'll be a fic about it before the end of the weekend.
You know, this is one of the first times I've seen a movie waaaaaay ahead of the bell curve (ie. the US). I'm tempted to put all my efforts into writing at least one story and see what fishies I pick up along the way.
ps. The adventures of Natasha Romanoff: Steve Roger's personal yenta. I must write this. TO THE WRITEMOBILE!
"I have the feeling that if I don't make a move myself, Nat will find me someone."
"And the problem with that would be?"
"She keeps wanting to pair me off with...nice women. Except for Major Carter."
"What's wrong with Sharon?"
"Apart from that she now works for the CIA and I'm trying to stay away from intelligence agencies?"
"Yet you walked into Stark Tower and never questioned Ceiling Cat."
"Ceiling Cat?"
One finger pointed upwards. "Ceiling Cat is watching you...never mind. It's Barton's nickname for JARVIS."
pps. The to-do list of things that Steve has: – what was on it when you watched the movie and what country are you in?? Because the list shown in Australia had 'Tim Tams' 'Steve Irwin' and something about kangaroos.
I have a $5 bet down that the list is unique to the country that it's shown in.

/Maria and Pepper working together at Stark Industries/ - Actually, I still have a difficult time wrapping my head around the idea of Maria Hill working at Stark Industries... O_o
Also, can we talk of how it's evident that Maria Hill is the only person Nick Fury trust implicitly?!? How awesome is that?
OMG, that Peggy scene... T_T And her video at the museum was totally awesome too! And we find out she was a co-founder of SHIELD!! *g*
Oh, so the list was personalized! *facepalm* That's why there was the name of an Italian rock star on it. I kept thinking I was imagining things, it was so improbable. :D

Very very awesome (although given the perspective on Nick, not necessarily a plus for her from fandom's POV).
I think it was kind of implied that Peggy was a co-founder of SHIELD at the beginning. I haven't actually watched the Peggy Carter short, but I'm curious about how it ties in now...

We def DIDN'T have Tim Tams, Steve Irwin or kangaroos, I'd have remembered.

I saw the Tim Tams and Steve Irwin and thought "oh, that is such a marketing ploy".

Also, I thought the Steve/Maria scene with the helicarriers and "just do it" nicely mirrored the Steve/Peggy scene with the valkyrie at the end of Cap 1. I mean, I've basically accepted the fanon/headcanon that in Cap 1, Steve intended to die, even if he could have landed safely, so I liked that the helicarrier sequence basically validated that collective headcanon and that it paralleled the original by having him on the comms with a woman at the base. That the woman in this instance was Maria was just icing on the heartbreak cake.
Also, I really need to get myself a Maria icon.

And yeah, weren't there mirrors all over this movie? Old friends and new, old loves and new, the difference between WW2 and the current state of the war, and the final question of: what is the difference between security and control? Where are the lines drawn?
I've decided to go see it again tonight after work. There's a session that should start juuuuust after clockoff time. Enough time to grabs some munchies and get to the cinema. :)
NEED MOAR ICONS, DAMMIT!

I loved Steve making a new friend in Sam and both of them bonding over their war experiences.
Tony isn't going to know what hit him with both Maria and Pepper teaming up on him.

I'm trying to decide if Tony had a hand in hiring Maria, or if Pepper made the decision on her own and then presented it fait accompli to Tony who's all "OH NO YOU DIDN'T" and Pepper points out that he's been thinking about something like this for a while and here he has someone to organise it who actually thinks about the logistics and plans ahead and doesn't do things on the fly.
Plus, the idea of Maria quietly running logistics and intervention on The Adventures Of Steve And Sam as they execute Operation Find Bucky. Like, they're in a tight spot and suddenly they have support, apparently out of nowhere. And it turns out that Maria's been monitoring them and has sent in the troops. Which Steve appreciates but would she please let him know ahead of time next time?

I'm also totally behind the idea of Maria running logistics and intervention for Steve and Sam. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing that part of the third CA movie.

And while I'm sure she'll have some sort of boring title like "head of Human Resources," she will actually be head of "Superhero Resources."

So yes very confused about evil!Sitwell. :(
