Interesting.
I just dug out an old poster for Stargate Atlantis - one that I've had sitting around since July 2004 when the series first began.
It has character blurbs on the back.

Dr. Elizabeth Weir
Dr. Elizabeth Weir knows that the best place to orchestrate change is from within. As an international negotiatior, her tireless effors to bring about peace led the president of the United States, Henry Hayes, to place her in charge of Stargate Command. She is the first civilian female to lead a military operation of this magnitude and was personally selected by President Hayes to head the Stargate Atlantis project.
Major John Sheppard
Sheppard may have been cut from a different cloth than his dad, a respected Cold War colonel, but he was born for his assignment with the Stargate Atlantis project. Deep within this warrior is a secret not even he knows about, but one that will prove invaluable to the Stargate team. An excellent pilot with a rebellious streak, Major John Sheppard always does what he feels is right, even if it's not what he was ordered to do.
Lieutenant Aiden Ford
When Stargate Command was recruiting for the Atlantis team, Lt. Aiden Ford was the first to volunteer for the assignment. Always enthusiastic and unwaveringly loyal, Ford is committed to the mission and ready to handle anything that may arise.
Teyla Emmagen
A native of the planet Athos, Emmagen befriended the Stargate Atlantis team and now serves as their alien liaison. She has firsthand knowledge of the thing that threatens them all - the Wraith.
Dr. Carson Beckett
The team's medical officer, Dr. Carson Beckett, is also a medical anomaly, which makes him unique among the human race. He is one of a select group possessing a gene that allows mental interaction with the technology of the Ancients, creators of the Stargates.
Dr. Rodney McKay
One of the world's leading authorities on Stargate technology and the science of gate travel, Dr. Rodney McKay is a brilliant, if arrogant, astrophysicist. he was temporarily assigned to Stargate Command where he worked with the SG-1 team scientist, Dr. Samantha Carter.

The bit about Sheppard is particularly interesting: do we have anything else about Sheppard's family history? One presumes that, once they determined he had the gene, they'd have hunted down relatives several generations back on the off-chance that they had the gene too.
Which then prompts the question: if Carson has six siblings, did none of them test positive for the gene? Or is this one of those questions that is doomed never to be answered in-show?

On the whole, it's an interesting study in seeing what was originally thought of them and where they've come to after two-and-a-half seasons of the show.

Carson and seven siblings...didn't he say he came from a family of seven (Return Pt 1, when he's talking to Elizabeth in her apartment)? Okay, so maybe five siblings, plus mum and dad.
