Nope. No Monday off. Or even half-off.

Apparently the project manager is BRUTALLY uncompromising when it comes to the plan. To the point where co-worker next to me was told he still had to work while on sick leave. With pnuemonia.

Wow. Isn't that illegal? (also, shitty project management - contingency / alternatives are part of the point.)

Well, think of it as "strongly encouraged". The co-worker pushed back and told the manager, "sure, I'll do it when I'm not on my back coughing my lungs out". He's still not 100%, but the client's management are bad and the first project manager we had (the one who defended his people) was replaced by this guy.

A few years ago one of my colleagues tried to come in with pneumonia because his project was "really important". The top boss escorted him straight back out again.

I've done my own "oh, I'll drag myself in while ill because So Important" and it never ever ends well (in the worst cases, having to throw out and completely rewrite everything done while I was ill, once I wasn't).

Unfortunately, this manager is not like that. It was a very badly managed project on the client side, even before the first project manager was replaced with this one. Under this one, we've pretty much been treated like machines. I believe the first time he actually spoke to me was about 3 months into his time at the project.
