It cannot cost $37 to post two paperbacks worth $8 to Australia, no matter what the Amazon website thinks.

(This is like the $10 extra dollars it costs for the ebook to be bounced up to a satellite over the Pacific and down to Australian shores, isn't it?)

Shipping from here (US) to Australia should not be $37. Agreed. Although when I've sent stuff to Australia, it's cost me about $15 and that was for something that was only a couple ounces.

Oh, it's expensive, but not that much. I've received A4 padded envelopes stuffed with stuff that only cost $15 to send.

I wanted to buy a $6 book from Amazon.com but they're charging $7 for shipping. To Canada! We're just up across the border!

But $37 is truly ridiculous.

I don't know. Those wild wild wastes of Canada, full of moose and mounties. Dangerous spaces for a lone postie delivering to the snowy expanse of, uh, Toronto.

Yeah, the gouging is horrendous.
