don_in_melb asked When will you write your own book?
I am writing my own novel right now. Not very well or very regularly, which is part of the problem. I tend to get 1/3 of a the way through a story and then suffer a crisis of certainty about the story and why I'm writing it.
The crisis of confidence wasn't helped by a friend who, in the last couple of years, well, lambasted the kind of stuff I like to write. Saw it as puerile and beneath zir talent and bother. Ze was an influential friend and it's messed me up for a few years.
Plus, the year has held house stuff and moving, fandom, fanfiction, and characters that I don't have to think too hard about. And the feedback. Don't forget the feedback.
But I'm 25K into a story, and I've gotten to 90K on another story (before I realised that I could change one of the male protags to a female and the story would be a lot more effective, which has occasioned a complete rewrite and a great deal of trouble). The trick is finishing it: I know where it goes when they get back to civilisation, but the actually getting from being on the run to returning to 'her old life' is a generic blur.
Maybe I should write the last half of the book first? That could work.
So "when will I write my own book?" I'm writing one (several?) now. As to when you'll see it finished and published... Well, that will depend on my writing speed, my ability to believe in my writing skills, and whether anyone wants to publish it.
But I did promise a cousin's wife I'd finish a novel by Christmas this year. That's not going to happen what with everything else going on around me.
