I don't know if this person is just pushing to make sure I'm not a swapthief, or if they really are eager for the package. Because truth? Even after I post this package, it's going to be anywhere between 10 days to a month before it arrives. And that's assuming Australia Post isn't going to get iffy about the contents.

Turns out Maria might have a cameo in Cap3. Along with everyone else in the MCU. But it certainly won't be the part she played in the comics. And it's really unlikely to be anything that I'll go OMG SQUEE about. (Like, you know, Maria wielding the Hammer and telling the superheroes that this was a test and they've FAILED.)

So, yay cameo! But *sigh* for missed opportunity.

The beta liked Sokovia, Suburbia, and the Senate - Part 1, so that's one thing off the chest.

Haven't even gone through my recip's work for [community profile] femmeremix yet. Must do that soon...

Except I have to get my profic submitted for the critique at the D*C workshop.

I have four weeks before I leave for Vietnam, the UK, and the US. Work is trying to fill up my hours, so I'm getting scrapwork. Which means my brain is everywhere.

I'm not going to get everything done that I want to get done:
a. at least one costume for D*C
b. a couple of dresses for wearing in summer climes
c. several sewing exchange things where I'm behind.

Listening to "Physical Compatibility" from the Pacific Rim soundtrack and remembering just how awesome that fight scene is.

Finally: something crossed my dashboard about a "golden trio" of movies. Pacific Rim, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Cap 2. The golden trio was because they're "about a woman and her golden retriever guy".

Except that Cap 2 wasn't about Natasha. It wasn't about her goals, her aims, her desires. She gets caught up in Steve's story and plays a major part BUT IT IS NOT HER STORY. And I've already argued this with several geekguys who DO NOT GET IT that just because a woman is on screen for most of the movie doesn't make that movie ABOUT her. She did not have equal billing. She did not have a storyline about her. Her goals, her actions, her involvement was all in relation and context of Steve and the things that were happening to him.

That's like saying a woman talking 50% of the time in mixed company is dominating the conversation. (Which people do. They've done tests.)

It's entrenched and innate sexism, and claiming that Cap2 is "about Natasha" is buying into the mentality that it's enough for a woman to just be there.

Which I shouldn't need to tell you is bullshit.

As much as I enjoyed Cap2 and the role Natasha (and Maria and Sharon) played, IT IS NOT HER STORY.

At least Pacific Rim's themes were about co-operation, partnership, and if Raleigh got to save his co-pilot and the world as he failed in the opening sequence, Mako also got to state her desire to pilot a Jaeger AND THEN PILOT A JAEGER. Is that a more flimsy argument than the one about Mad Max: Fury Road? Yes, yes it is. But at least it can be argued. The Mako Mori Test is real, even if the Furiosa Subversion blows it out of the water.

And note: just because something is problematic doesn't make it bad. (Unless you're under 20, in which case it's badevilwrongburnitwithfire. Go away and come back when you've learned about compromise.)

A thought I had about compromise.

I learned it at 18, the first time I realised I had to vote in a political election and all my choices were iffy.

Australia has mandatory voting, you see. Polls are on a Saturday, and polling places are open from 8am to 6pm, past the 9-5 retail hours. We also have far fewer people than the US, UK, Canada, and all the other comparable western democracies: and we're a lot more cynical than, say, the US, where it sometimes feels like there are only two political orientations: True Believer or DGAF.

Current plotbunny that wants writing: go down with your shield, or come back upon it - Five time Steve Rogers got the shovel talk, and the one time he didn't. Well, sort of didn't.
