I make no bones about this: it's pure, unadulterated silly.

But fun! So much cracktastic fun to write! Ronon especially. *goes into convulsions*

(I actually started writing this when [livejournal.com profile] pentapus did her last 'write me fic and I may do art' challenge. Then she did a "here's art, now write me fic" challenge instead. D'oh!)

Anyway:

The Dark Crystal

When single shines the triple sun,
What was sundered and undone,
Shall be whole - the two made one!
By Gelfling hand,
Or else by none.

The creatures came for John, their carapaces clicking blackly up the stairs and along the corridors to the balcony where he'd taken refuge.

Too many of them and his only weapon was the Crystal shard.

His only escape was the Crystal.

John took a running start and leaped. No wings, but he didn't need them - not for this. Fingers scrabbled at the Crystal's angled top, the roughly-rounded tip jabbed into his belly as his feet scrambled for purchase.

The Crystal shard slipped from his grip, tumbling in a bright glitter down to the floor.

"No!" He heard Teyla's voice echoing his cry.

"The shard! The shard!" Rough voices rang with echoes of glee, and John flailed to retain his grip on the Crystal, helpless to do anything but watch as Michael moved forward to pick it up with one clawed hand.

A small ball of fur and hair intercepted his hand, teeth and growl and ferocity.

"Ronon!"

With a hiss of pain, the Wraith flung the tiny creature into the pit beneath the Crystal. John glanced down, saw the creature vanishing into the hot fumes that wafted out, making his eyes water.

Another movement caught his eye - Teyla had launched herself, wings unfolding as sails to unseen winds. Her fingers closed about the shard, scooping it up, but she couldn't evade the hand that gripped her by the neck.

John saw her wince as Michael's hand closed about her nape, but her gaze was wide and fearless.

"Come down," the Wraith man threatened as the othe Warlords shifted and muttered among themselves. "Come down from the Crystal and she lives."

"No!" Teyla's eyes met John's, held them as she lifted the pale magenta shard in her hands, fingers clenching around the faceted angles. "Don't listen to them, John! Heal the Crystal!"

Even as she flung the shard upwards, John saw Michael's face convulse.

His hand plucked the shard from the air, instinct and co-ordination, even as he watched Teyla's skin age and wrinkle, crumble and crumple.

She collapsed to the floor, old beyond belief, but her eyes held to John's face, even as her lips shaped two last words: The Crystal...

John had no time for grief or anger. Even as he cried her name, the light around him thickened as the Great Conjunction began, and the light of the three suns beat down on him.

The purpose of all his travels and journeys: Crystal, shard, Great Conjunction, and him.

When single shines the triple sun…

NOTES: John as Jen (hero complex), Teyla as Kira (with wings), Ronon as Fizzgig (size notwithstanding), and Rodney as Aughra. (Can't you just see Rodney screeching at the Garth'im in the conservatory?) Plus, you know, bonus Wing!fic! I can't believe I just said that.

It really is [livejournal.com profile] pentapus' fault, by the way. Her and her pointy-eared John got me thinking of Gelflings...
